Arrangement!..everything from the marriage~~~ to the elder ~~~ etc. etc.
'Happifying' drove me nuts, as did 'behooves' and phrases like " do we not.....?".

At arm's length I thought referring to the religion as "the truth" was odd. Did you ever hear a Jehovah's Witnesses who was asked what religion are you? and they'd answer "Oh I'm in the truth". I never heard that ever.

But, at an assembly, a complete stranger would walk up to the post I was leaning on and ask me "How long you been in the truth?". Odd! Another one was: "How did you get the truth?". Weird!

One thing pissed me off was when Witnesses I didn't like would walk up to me and call me "brother"! There was a pretty long list of don't likes by the time I left and calling me "brother" got ya added to it fast. Lots of Witnesses would refer to other Witnesses as the "friends" (I hated that) and they'd have a compulsion to end sentences with the word "brother". "Where's your tie . . . brother?". They knew my name. It was a condescending approach to a person (me) that didn't appreciate a condescending approach to something that wasn't any of their business in the first place.

I quit!

"Jehovah's people" always sounded funny to me. As in I'll have my people contact your people.

I remember them referring to the act of not going to meetings or out in service regularly as "begging off". I always felt that what they really wanted to say began with and F.

Another thing along similar lines to garybuss; I've always considered the use of someones first name as an indication of closeness or friendship and nothing to do with over-familiarity, but I can recall cringing when some stupid directive was read (maybe in a WT) about how much more loving it was to call your brothers and sisters as 'brother.... and sister....'

The cool brothers got away with calling everyone 'bro'

HAPPIFICATION does exist.

THE Society: sounds like some crappy movie about a cult(how fitting), or a John Grisham book)
"The Truth": Used so much that people who don't even believe it anymore call it "the truth" without thinking about what they are saying.
The organization: see "The society"
Out in service: sounds like a military term.

Oh, sorry I thought they said it was in a wt article. I must have read it wrong.

Oh no, it's all over the place; I just looked in the '05 watchtower CD. Thankfully they stopped using it in '98. I guess that's what you get when you let people with no more than a HS education proofread your articles.

anyone remember 'backcalls'?..and 'wordly' is too funny.they use it like its a bad thing!!..i hate the term'gods kingdon'for some reason,altho i know many religions use it..creeps me out.'the faithful and discreet slave',sounds like a bad porn movie....
