    I used to wear a veil myself . . .

In Arab culture, women are supposed to cover their faces. In European culture, a covered face is a symbol of evil intent. Reluctance to be identified or identifiable is associated with criminals. I cannot get into a bank with my face covered. Why should someone so hidden be allowed teach in a school? If her religious tradition means so much to her, bully for her, but the rest of the civilised world shouldn't have to conform to her bizarre eccentricities.

Regarding the cross-wearer, can't she wear it under her clothes as in the regulations? If she's not using it to preach, then why does she need to show it? If she should be allowed to show it, can one of her colleagues start wearing a pentagram to work? Or have KKK tattooed across their face? Perhaps BA are partly responsible by allowing other employees to display the symbols of their superstition. Can't they just have a single dress code, and give those who refuse to comply the freedom of not working for them?

I see the point in banning all such religious symbols in the workplace. It has been tolerated for a long time but the time is coming when we all should see religious difference as the culprit behind much of the conflict in the world. Religion is fine but keep it to yourself. It is not necessary to display icons of worship on your person. Your exceptional conduct and speech should identify you as a godly person to others.
Employers have a right to insist employees maintain a neutral work attire.

Like Gill, i find the veil wearing quite offensive!

In THIS country people like to see each others faces whilst engaging in conversation. I'm not a big fan of Mr Straw but he was totally within his rights to request this. Gives me the creeps actually. Other countries have their particular traditions and idiosyncratic ways that i would like to think i would observe if i visited, within reason.

Oh it's just a joke, it really is! Political Correctness is now becoming Religious Correctness and its out of hand.

I truly hope that i'm not in this country in 20 years time.

    Peace

    Lowden
