The Second Emergent Type of "Faders"

It's all about lack of love. It's obvious that local treatment in the congregation is never truly "loving". If it has to conform to "theocratic rules", it can NEVER be "loving".

    LongHairGal,

I completely agree with you. One of the big underlying problems is the entire works based belief system. If you perform certain works, then you're held up to the rest as an example to follow. Except the works aren't showing "fruits of the spirit" they usually involve spending more than the average amount of time in field service and handling various other duties.

Also, the pioneer title is one I've never been able to figure out. I understand the Bible sets out qualifications for elders/ms. Of course the WTS true to form totally bypasses those qualifications by setting their own (how much time do they spend in fs? do they report a "family study", etc). But, where on earth does the justification for the pioneer title come from? I must have missed that one!

If everyone focused on showing concern for each other instead of judging each other by their "activity", they'd be a whole lot better off.

I used to say that the JW's needed to spend as much time caring for the baptized, after their baptisms, as they did before the baptisms. Why spend countless, fruitless hours trying to get people in the door to door and witnessing work, only to find the rare interested person, study with them for months or years and then just drop them once the dunk is over? It didn't make and it still doesn't make any sense.

    Great post Met.

I love that "spiritual Amway" comment, though it's a bit of an insult to Amway, some of their products are quite good.

I agree with your friend, the oft - repeated "armageddon's round the corner" phrase isn't effective any more with a lot of dubs. It's over a year since I was last at a kh, but there had been an ever - growing sense of apathy there for years, and I doubt it's any differrent now. As more leave, instead of properly addressing the obvious problems, the society responds by demanding more of those still there. If things carry on the way they are, I can only see the wts losing more members.

You know, both Trev and I pioneered, and neither of us thought about that until you mentioned it, but we can't think where that came from, certainly not the bible. It's just another title the society thought up, I guess.

Excellent points, Jourles. It's a poor business model, one that cannot be sustained indefinitely.

The lack of love is what got me down. I was tired of fighting for help for my family (parents were both having serious medical problems at the start of my fade). I couldn't understand why nobody seemed to care what I was going through when supposedly these same people were supposed to "give up thier lives" for a brother or sister in faith.

People I thought were friends turned out not to be such good friends after all. When there was no social network, there seemed to be no point to anything. I'd see other people I worked with involved in their churches, doing volunteer work, community service work and trips etc. There was nothing like that going on in any of the congs I attended and the so called "preaching work" seemed pointless, so what was the point in attending meetings etc.???

This thread is one of these that just "nails it" from my point of view and drives home the point that this forum is a god-send for countless dubs and ex-dubs who have no place to go to express these doubts, ask these questions, and get this kind of loving, non-jugdgmental "hearing ear."

I have heard some say, they are waiting for a change......they think it will come soon in the Organization, that there are alot of good people hanging on barely thinking that newer younger ones in the GB will make things better.

Waiting for change, if it comes, will be be like watching a glacier melt.

I use to think so too, or hope that through some heroic effort they would wake up.

I don't think it will ever happen.

Enough has been in the media to wake them up. It sounds harsh, but if hearing about a sex abuse scandal does not send you researching, you are corrupt.
