Hello, Might I sugest that just because someone doesn't post again right away doesn't necesarliy mean they don't appreaciate the advice they are given. Some would simply rather Read rather than post. Some also may be limited for time to post and do so properly, some forget their passwords and so on. And then again it's easy for a new one to get lost here in tha many postings. Sometimes I loose track of where I posted. Just some things to think about. seek2find

I agree. Some of us may post too much, and then later wish we could take some (many) of those inane posts back. So some might just be smarter (than me) and just read and learn. And then when they do speak, it's worth reading.

eyeslice: "This is the internet - take everything with a pinch of salt."

Exactly, eyeslice. Personally, I'd rather endure a few rumors, flamers, and trolls than have a forum that's overly restrictive.

Yes. but - SeektoFind raises valid points. After a certain while, though, it becomes easier to sort "the wheat from the weeds."

Big announcement was nothing more than some of the members of this forum trying to make a big deal out of nothing.

This is not necessarily true. I think that this "Big Announcement" may have indeed ocurred already. (and I'm not talking about the tract)

Shortly before I became a member of this forum; an individual that I know actually had lunch with a member of the Governing Body who specifically stated that "big changes" were going to take place that "many people were not going to like". I received this information at about the same time that the elimination of the Bethel Elder arraangement was announced. ( I may be off by a month or so ) It was also about the same time that the Bethel layoffs were first announced.

Stupid me; I did not stop to think that the information I received was concerning the changes currently being carried out at Bethel. I just assumed that these changes were other events that were coming in the future. I know that other posters on this site also had some inside information as to "big changes" or "big announcements" that were going to be made. I think they may have made the same mistake that I made.

I now think that the "Big Announcement" was indeed the end of the Bethel Elder arrangement, and theBethel layoffs. I don't know why I didn't see the connection sooner.

yep, but none of them are doing so in the name of Jehovah-I don't think-unless it is the JWs, and I have already dealt with that disappointment.

A dumbass is a dumbass no matter what or who posts the information. BESIDES, who really depends on the "solid" gossip information posted on this forum ....or any other? LOL

You all know by now that I'm a natural skeptic. I do try and confirm rumors. blondie, too. As others have said, there's enough wrong with the society without having to dramatize or make stuff up. I think the best way to squelch unfounded rumor is to check it out right away.

skyking, I would qualify your statements and distinguish between misinformation and opinion. Opinions will always differ. We all can only have opinions about the origins of life on this planet, for instance. A discussion board will naturally be loaded with opinions. Information, however, can be verified objectively. A statement such as, "The moon is made of green cheese", can be checked. That statement is dead wrong, and the author can repeat it until they are blue in the face. It is still wrong.

r6laser, I disagree about the impact of Barbara Andersen's big news last year. I think the ripple effect from that single legal essay will eventually force the Watchtower to change it's blood policy. And thereby save many, many lives. So it was big news, but the impact will not be instantaneous. Real life is not a thirty minute sit-com. I think the only error Barbara Andersen made was in the way she introduced that article to this board, which built a hype I doubt she intended. I was also severely disappointed in this board's response to Barbara, who has done so much for the ex-Witness community.

The board also failed to recognize Jourles on his return from a year's hiatus. Jourles was the first to post all the BOE letters, and more, on the internet. Shortly after he posted the letters, the WTBTS hunted him down and disfellowshipped him. And how did JWD treat Jourles on his return a year later? Most posters here didn't remember him, and initially doubted his sincerity.

This is another failing of boards like this. We have pathetically short memories.

"I think the ripple effect from that single legal essay will eventually force the Watchtower to change it's blood policy." not likely given the number of people that have already died from that policy and the fury and lawsuits that will follow from incensed relatives. It could blow them apart financially. Otherwise it would be easy to replace old light with new light and remove the ban.
