I seen the movie, but I don't remember all the details. What was the color red supposed to signify? Why were the people so afraid of the color red?

Red was the colour of the "outsiders" or the monsters that lurked in the woods. This stigma carryed to a general paranoia of red including a scene were some girls panic when they see a red flower blooming and hastily bury it. Yellow was the colour of the Village and a protective colour (yellow robes were worn by the sentries on the towers, flying yellow flags). The while colour thing was a construct and an example of how cults use "straw man" concepts to paralyse a community.

Red represents R-rated movies and worldly co-workers, so to speak

I have the movie and have watched it a few times but never associated it with the dub org. but now that you mention it, it is eerily very much alike (shivers)

It also reminded me of the Bush administration.

Blinders and FEAR-MONGERING are hateful and deceitful, whether coming from a village, a religion, or a government.

I never saw the JW connection until it was pointed out here. What struck me most about the movie was the futility of trying to isolate a group of people in order to protect them from outside harm. The impulse to hurt one another is latent inside every human being, and sooner or later, when the conditions are right, it emerges. The Village is a failed experiment in combatting evil (again, much like the JWs).

    PLOT REVEAL ALERT

yes i saw the similarities...esp in the way they were prepared to kill (or have someone - a simpleton - kill) in order to keep the lie alive
