I think this comes under an oral law in the tradition of men (pharisees), although no action can be taken, council is often given to check on the standing of the brother who grew the beard, and indeed it can affect his 'priviledges' in the congo. It is usually something up held by the local congregation members, comments you hear and such like. In my hall one or two had beards over the years including myself, but were never used. One teenage lad an MS grew a goatee, and was to do an Assembly part, and was asked to shave it off which he promptly did.

I never saw beards in the 1950`s..Even Jesus was clean shaven in drawing`s of the Watchtower and Awake..WBT$ rules with an iron fist..God had to cancel armageddon in 1975 and Jesus had to shave his beard..Those two wouldn`t even have a job without the WBT$...OUTLAW

I wonder if the watchtower society will ever attack pedophiles as vigorously as they attack men who sport a little facial hair.

    No, probably not.

I remember being told by an elder in my old cong. that a brother could wear a beard if he so chose but he would not be given any privilages.

My friends from other countries said that in some congregations it was o.k. to sport one. A lot of controversy over the years about this subject.

I wonder how may posters here have grown one since they left .

So. True. Add to that, is the fight for sideburns! Yes, I fought the good fight for a nice pair of sideburns...but I was persauded to remove them, because of my grandfather....and because of the CO.

Guys, if you are planning on leaving the JWs anyway, grow a beard before you make your final exit. It is fun watching the Elders scramble for that 1970's article...

Extreme hair styles can easily lead one into a trap of the Devil also, and cause others to stumble. For example, a young man in the United States was making fine progress in his study of the Bible, and he was moved to share with an experienced Witness in preaching to others about the good things he was learning from the Bible. From early youth he had let his beard grow, and since some in the business community wore beards, he felt that his wearing one in preaching to others would be acceptable generally. But in speaking to a lady he was unable to do more than introduce himself, when she said: "I'm sorry, young man, I do not want to become involved in student revolt." No amount of explanation after this sufficed to clear up the misimpression. After the conversation ended with the closing of the door, he asked the experienced Witness what had happened. He was invited to consider his appearance in relation to what he claimed to be, a servant of God. Not wanting to be responsible for even one person's being stumbled so as to miss the way to everlasting life, this new Kingdom publisher shaved off his beard. Would you be willing to do the same or to make similar adjustments if your appearance gave the wrong impression in a certain community?

How many bearded student revolts have you been in lately?

It really is just plain silly isn't it ?

I thought God judged people on the content of their heart not on whether they sported facial hair.

Towards the end of my time "in", I grew my beard several times, (my ex-would always make me shave it off, though). I do remember a KH remoldeling we did, (in 2002, w/o RBC), where all of the elders grew goatees and beards during the construction period. How rediculous that "no beard" policy was.
