A very simple dip is part of our Thanksgiving tradition.

Take a pint of sour cream.

A small can of diced green chiles.

Mix and add salt to taste.

Best to fix the night before. Great to snack on with chips as the turkey cooks. It's also good to use as a side garnish with your turkey in addition to cranberry sauce.

    U. B. That's a great idea ! One chicken, one stuffing mix. That'll work. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty darn thankful every day I'm above ground. My friends ( mostly beach lovers, fishermen, sun- worshippers, and a few who are doing their best to beat " possesion" . . . no, the word isn't arrest . . . something else ) are going to be gathering at my house for "stuffed something" . . a South of France sort of regional dish that has just been recently introduced into our " group." Sam is bringing a " turn of the corner, found somewhat upright " white. He hopes it will " engage" the "purity", if you will, of the chicken ( God help him if he discovers it is not organic . . .for Sam will not pluck ( sorry 'bout the pun ) anything from the garbage that has chemicals in it. He is indeed a pure soul ! There are so few. ANYWAY . . .Claire is bringing the salad ( don't tell anyone but I think it's some type of "grass" that she has grown in her basement. I had it for last year's Thanksgiving and for the next six Thankgivings since then . . . it ain't bad.

Oh, I could go on . . .however,my buds want me to " get the F**K off the computer" and mix them up a potion . . .after all, it IS Monday, and we have to discuss the upcoming election. BTW, we are all voting for the SOB that promises not to use nukes . . .oh, never mind. I think it's time to move.

Yep, hyjacked another one. Sorry about that . . .my mind DOES wander.

LOL .. wow for a minute there a thought you were a piker

Slice open the dates, fill with either chopped nuts or half of a whole walnut, roll in powdered sugar and enjoy.

I do that with a twist....use medjool dates, fill with almond paste, top with chopped roasted almonds.

Any way you eat medjool dates, it's a guaranteed foodgasm!

Shelley, that Brown Sugar Meringue Bars recipe has both sugar and brown sugar in it.

Dates filled with cream cheese that has a bit of orange concentrate and/or vanilla. YUM, not my favorite, but the date thing reminded me. I will bring those to the family gathering.

Ok, my sis once had a recipe for a sweet potato casserole that had marshmallows mixed in, with a pecan topping. Looked grownup, really was more dessert like, but supposed to go on the table with the turkey. I can't find it anymore. Do any of you all have a similar recipe?

And what is suet? Any substitution for it? Would love to try the pasties and will be making the TNT chicken tonite. It sounds like something my family would totally love. Except for my 6 year old. Thats what we keep the easy mac around for-so we can eat some nice dinners w/o getting grief for the whole meal (that's me, choosing my battles!)

    JWdaughter, here's one I found on cooks.com:

    Sweet Potato Casserole

5 med. sweet potatoes, peeled, cooked & mashed
    1/3 c. milk
    3 tbsp. light brown sugar
    2 tbsp. sugar
    2 tbsp. butter, melted
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
    1/4 tsp. ground ginger
    1 c. miniature marshmallows, optional
    1 c. chopped pecans, optional

Combine all ingredients except marshmallows. Mix well. Spoon into lightly greased 1 1/2 quart casserole dish. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Uncover, bake 5 more minutes with marshmallows and pecans. BTW, I think you can substitute either bacon drippings or shortening for the suet.
