The 144,000 teaching. They take that one figure and make it literal while the rest is figurative.

My most recent encounter at the mall went like this:
Elder: Hi, W! Haven't seen you in a long time! Are you living in this neighbourhood again?
Me: F*ck off, bitch!
Normally I wouldn't act like that, but he was a bastard to me the whole time I was a JW. He knows I'm out now, and as far as I'm concerned his initiating conversation with me was just leading up to his saying something ignorant to me. I decided to beat him to the punch.

First I tell them I don't believe in the existence of God. That generally gets them away from using the Bible to "prove" their doctrine.
They usually move on to evolution and origin of life. I tell them that evolution is not an article of faith for me. It's a theory and a work-in-progress, and I'm not sure it explains everything. As far as the origin of life, I tell them I have no idea and that it's a topic I'm not really interested in. What's important is that we're here; how we got here is anyone's guess.
This approach knocks all their props out from under them and usually leaves them with their mouths hanging open. I don't offer them anything they can argue with and soon they go away. -

Used this a few weeks ago:
Everything you do as a Witness is because of your love for your fellowman, right? Well I found I could do a lot more for people by not being a JW than by being one.
I simply left it at that.

Even the NWT reads, "Do not put your trust in earthling men " The WTS is governed by "earthling men."
