Could it be they are doing a major shift in teaching and dropping the 144,000 completely? Everyone gets to follow Jesus. I can't believe they would do this, as it would put all the past Watchtower teachings in the garbage can. No more earthly hope and a paradise earth for the the lowly JW's. Everyone gets to go to heaven and be with Jesus. The fact that they never used Jesus Christ as a Convention title since way before I was a member, seems to point to some major change in teaching. Obviously, the anointed remnant teaching is looking more like an embarassing failed dogma to even the average JW. Everyone can have the Holy Spirit in the new WT order- They just have to convince the R&F JW that the Governing Body in NY and local elders still have to be believed and obeyed. I'll be watching what happens next summer with interest.

Very interesting. They can sound a bit more mainstream, point to the title of their DA as proof that they really do honor Jesus...but, as blondie has shown, what they are really doing is trying to strengthen the GB's claim to authority and control over the JWs. Lovely.

Doubting Bro:
So, the term "the Christ" is actually a composite term consisting of Jesus plus them?
This, of course, would make them equal. I never realized this before.
This is scary arrogant stuff!!! They are deifying themselves!

This is interesting on two levels (at least):
1) The 'bait and switch' that will take place - "You came to hear about Christ, but we're going to tell you about the FDS."
2) Where's the sense of urgency? What about 'The Great Day of Jehovah is at Hand'?

This might be a little far-fetched, and draw some criticism, but I think they are preparing their believers to accept the coming "Antichrist" who will claim to be "The Christ".
When I say Antichrist, I don't mean wicked governments who force Jdubs to celebrate holidays, I mean a man who sits in God's temple and claims to be The Christ. A man who will perform miracles and establish a temporary peace on earth. A man who will force everyone to worship him. I personally believe that the WTS will accept this man and this acceptance will be "new light" to lead all members in acceptance as well.

This is scary arrogant stuff!!! They are deifying themselves! This actually isn't but 1/2 step up from the claims the WTS already makes! They claim to be picked by Jesus as THE ONLY religion that follows Him; they claim that ONLY THEY can accurately interpret scriptures; and they claim that by not becoming a JW that God will destroy every other person or religion on earth.......which has already elevated them to great lofty heights in their own minds....
....the next step to deifying themselves cannot BE far behind or all that difficult to follow.
The WTS seems to forget that the One who they also claim as their "examplar" was humble, warm, kind and forgiving. We do NOT see these traits or qualties in the men who run the WTS or who print the garbage that more than six million followers take to heart and dutifully obey.

Interesting. If they can refer to Jesus using the title Christ Jesus, I wonder if they will now start referring to anointed people with the Christ title...
Brother Self Righteous will become Christ Self Righteous
Sister Nags to Death will become Christ Nags to Death

Yeah, my catholic upbringing keeps coming back! But even though they don't believe Jesus is God like the catholics do but a creation, I got the impression they still "sort of" see him as a deity of sorts even though we are not supposed to pray to him. He is higher than the angels and in a category all his own.
The problem with the whole thing of the anointed seeing themselves as his equal opens up a whole can of worms. Not just because they are a step away from actually proclaiming themselves as divine but it will cause problems in the congregation. There is already too much emphasis on titles.
Even if it were true that at some future date the "King" Jesus were to actually appoint people as (princes or whatever), does this mean people should proclaim themselves as that now - and expect people to accept it no less?
Isn't this the height of arrogance? I think it is.

There was an announcement about this either last year or early this year in our congregation about this "putting more emphasis on Jesus".

LMAO....surely you jest. There's a better chance of me being struck by lightening AND winning the lottery tonight than the above scenario happening.
I don't really find the title of the ASSembly very earth-shattering. They've always publically taught that we should follow Jesus, while in reality, it's the Governing Body they want you to follow.
As Blondie said, the "annointed" are already considered Christ's brothers and also making up the "body of Christ", so it's no great stretch to make then entire ASSembly revolve around obeying "the Slave" while giving obedience to Jesus himself the occasional nod. It's the same ol, same ol. Here's a quote I did from my notes during my uh "adventure" at the assembly in July 2005:
We were also told that the Governing Body is "steering a ship with 6,000,000 passengers on board. Our survival depends on obeying the captain in everything,
even if you've got a sneaking suspicion that you're on board the Titanic. We should neverexpose the Forgetful and Incontinent Slobber Classspeak badly about the F&DSC, because that's the same as speaking badly about Jehovah. We should be quick to "obey the Slave as though our lives depend on it---which it does."For those of you who have been to the Memorial in the last 4 or 5 years, you'll know that there is less and less emphasis being put on Jesus all the time. He's barely mentioned at the Memorial anymore. The entire talk revolves around who make up the annointed and who should eat the bread and take the wine. It's pathetic.
The WTS is a cult. Their survival depends on getting their followers to obey THEM---not Jesus. There's no way in hell they're going to put more emphasis on him and less on themselves, even though they like to give the appearance that this is what they do.
