    Dear Diary,

What do you think of this letter, from a daughter to her father? It is in reference to the death of her father's sister, her aunt:

"We are terribly saddened by the death of your cherished sister, our dear aunt; but our sorrow at losing her is as nothing compared to our concern for your sake, because your suffering will be all the greater, Sire, as truly you have no one else left in your world, now that she, who could not have been more precious to you, has departed, and therefore we can only imagine how you sustain the severity of such a sudden and completely unexpected blow. And while I tell you that we share deeply in your grief, you would do well to draw even greater comfort from contemplating the general state of human misery, since we are all of us here on Earth like strangers and wayfarers...."

Those are the words of Sister Maria Celeste, written to her father, Galileo Galilei, from San Mateo in Arcetri, 10 May 1623. - GALILEO'S DAUGHTER, Dava Sobel, pp. 3, 4.

What a dear child she must have been! Of Galileo's three children, she alone was his confidante and reflected his intelligence. She proved herself a very sensible and hard-working individual, on behalf of the Church and her father. What an inspiration she is, to this very day.

The day was indeed beautiful, DD. I did more work on the grounds today, as payment toward the high cost of utilities this time of year. Ironic, that I, the gardener of this estate over 20 years ago, should now return and bring it all under control---as resident-gardener. I will have to take you outdoors, Dear Diary, to show you about. It is truly beautiful here, on Walden Pond............

    Dear Diary,

A very good morning to you! Looks as if, once again, the Academy Awards are looming on the horizon---next month. I'm in an emotional muddle over best actress category; I only saw Meryl Streep's film, "The Devil Wears Prada." She was incredible. Then I hear Judi Dench and Helen Mirren are up too! Guess I'll have to spring for a DVD player to see their work. All my faves. Forrest Whitaker and Leo DiCappucino up for the guys.
Sir Edward Elgar's gorgeous "Enigma Variations" playing now on NPR. A set of 14 variations on EE's then anonymous 14 friends---hence, the "enigma." Written---or published?---in 1899. Conducted by [Sir] John Barbirolli, Philharmonia Orchestra.
Warmish today---somewhere in the 50s. "State of the Union" by GWB tonight; 20,000 more troops. Palestinians in Bahgdad fear for their lives.

Back after the breaking of the fast, DD.

    Dear Diary,

I am once again beside myself. Schizo called and simply cannot understand what grief he causes others. They are cowards if they do not agree and champion his cause. God will strengthen you to take up my cause. My own issues and battles are of no concern to him. I must focus on Schizo and his needs. It's no wonder I had to turn off the phone and go to an answering service. My mistake for calling him back. He said that I and everyone else he knows is afraid. Well, good luck, Don Quixote---you can go tilting at the Borg for all you're worth. I choose not to bring down the So. with your fire and vengeance. I called you back, I hung up on your abuse, and I am sorry---for you, not for hanging up. Five years of this; escaping the WT was a piece of cake by comparison.
I am still shaking, DD. May go for a vigorous walk and shake off the shakes.

    Dear Diary,

Back from some much needed exercise and talk with a neighbor. He needs some help around the place. A good thing, after all, that I got out for a bit. Cleared the head and a new little job. Debussy's "Reverie" was on earlier. Such a cool, dreamy piece---well, that's the name.
Got to do some more reading: MOBY DICK, GALILEO'S DAUGHTER, ISOCF.......

    Back later on, DD.

    Dear Diary,

Thank God for the forum. RiRi's gut-wrenching autobiop gave me a perspective I didn't know possible. I've been hurt and I have hurt. But toxic people must be excised from our lives, however nastily they rant about what we are "doing to them." Get back to you this eve, DD.
I think I might just make it , after all!

    Dear Diary,

A difficult day, though not a total loss by any means. Little ones loved the park, running and jumping and laughing. Bought little treats. Exhausted due to heavy-duty trimming and pruning on the estate today. Then a walk, then ANOTHER walk in the park. Couldn't make it through music lesson this eve---collapse. But Famlee said no problema, stay for suppa. Did so/ got home/ crashed. J'ai grand mal a la tete. May be back, DD.
Rarely get angry, but got pushed too far by the petulant one today. When another's self-centeredness impinges upon my rights as a human being, I stop feeling sorry and say, "don't tread on me!" Remember the proposed California State flag with the rattler and those words? How apropos...........

    Dear Diary,

Thank goodness the headache is gone and I am feeling better on all counts. Johannes Brahm's "Symphony # 2" finished up a bit ago. Written in his 40s. not all of us get Mozart's early start! Conducted by Lennie B./ New York Philharmonic. Isabella Faust later played Gabriel Faure's "Romance" for violin. Samuel Wesley---about 10 years younger than Mozart---was referred to as the "English Mozart." His "Symphony # 6" later this eve. Eric Coates' "Nightsbridge March" [very familiar tune] from "London Suite" complete and Tchaikovsky's "Melancholy Serenade" is now being played by Midori, who's slated for upcoming tour in Europe.
Well, now that you know what's on the radio waves, DD, guess I've used up my time with you---for now. Back a little later.

    Dear Diary,

Greetings; another cool morning but lotsa sun to cheer the day, I'm sure. Start with a glass of milk and slightly-stale ciabatta et EVOO. To prepare the gut for some wrenching cafe au lait. Fresh and strong.
Reading more on comments in ISOCF about making "our" kids appear normal in CCC. Oh yes, I am studying to become a journalist. Of course, it will involve reading "outside" material and taking academic courses, but in my religious group we are accepting of all life's normal activities and would never wish to appear like religious psycho-ceramics [crack-pots]. Therefore, when homes are split apart by a non-believing mate---a "tool" of Satan---the worthy, believing parent might be awarded the normal and eminently well-adjusted child by the court. In that way, the child's obvious reasoning and objective nature can be nurtured by intelligent and spiritual parenting. Then it's back to the "books" [WTPUBS].
Pablo di Sarasatti's [sp?] "Carmen Fantasy" upcoming - Anna Sophie Mutter; Fritz Kreisler's "Liebestoid" [sp?] - "Love's Joy" - Hour of the Violin.
    See ya....

    Dear Diary,

Well, the second cup of leaded for today has gotten me to sit bolt-upright. That's a good thing as I write upon your blank sheet. I survived the rigors of yesterday---physically and emotionally. Re: RiRi's compelling letter: one mentioned detachment from difficult people and I finally get the point. It is no longer "fight"---feelings of guilt that the anger and combativeness of the other person is somehow your fault; you have not done enough to bring peace into his world of turmoil. As of this moment, it is "flight"---begging, pleading, explaining in calming and reassuring tones---has effected no change for the better in his attitude. I'm outta here. Enough of the guilt trip. What is this thing they call enabling/co-dependency?
Beethoven's "Symphony # 6 - The Pastoral" is now playing; the storm has unleashed its fury upon the rusticators---run for shelter! Now the sun has come out---Apollo, in his chariot, blazes across the sky. The mighty steeds herald forth with dispatch and purpose! It shall, indeed, be a beautiful day!

    Dear Diary,

Cesar Franck's "Le Chasseur Maudit"---"The Accursed Huntsman" concluded a bit ago. A nobleman goes ahunting about a Sabbath morn. Starts out cheerily and unsuspectingly enough. Bit by bit the tempo hastens, the tone turns discordant. What! Hounds and fiends from the underworld emerge and nip at his heels, quickly melting upon the hapless soul, to drag him kicking and screaming into the nether regions. Well, that's my take on it.
Another message from Schizo. Hounds from hell at my heels? Can be empathetic toward off-centeredness, but when it becomes threatening, I must say, DD, I do get concerned. You must not disagree or state an opposing opinion. You must do as you are told and fall into step with his proposed plan of retribution. Would this be a good time to pray for divine guidance?
