Hello Chukky. I can understand your sentiments. To me they seem perfectly natural and to be expected. When I was your age I felt the same way, I said the Jw's have ruined my life and I was full of rage and anger. Ive been out since 83 and most days I end up thinking the Jws have altered my life but enough time has passed and Ive had enough good days to say that my life hasnt been ruined. Some say time is the great healer and thats what I'm passing on to you. Hang in there. There are better days coming.

A lot of problems , a lot of anger , but I've enjoyed the fight , and I'm still fighting.

I now know they lie, I have written evidence, the Data Protection Act is a wonderful tool.

I'm 74 and I'm going to enjoy whatever time I have left, I even enjoyed visiting a Womans Prison yesterday, didn't get a 'Tee shirt' though , got one from Alcatraz!

I dont give them any leeway. I feel they have, at the very least contributed to my grief filled life. I regret that I didnt have a real Dad because of this cult. I feel cheated out of a Dad. I told one of my friends just recently that I have felt like a bastard my whole life. I dont know what it is like to have a Dad that cares about my well being. All he ever cared about was my progress in the so called "Truth", he could care less that I have struggled financially. Good parents encourage their children to have self esteem and to get an education and to succeed in life--my Dad was just the opposite, thanks to the indoctrination of the WT. Everyone has choices yes, but when the best choices come along during the teenage years, its just a shame to discourage them. To sum this up, yes I feel like they have destroyed lives, mine included. Im picking up the pieces, but most of the opportunities of my youth are long gone, and I will always have to just accept "2nd best". I told my non jw cousin all about the JW's awhile back, and she just couldnt comprehend parents who would sabotage their childrens future career plans. She also has told me that every XJW she has spoken to all say the same thing--JW's are a destructive life altering cult. Dave

Chuckky - I'm glad to hear that your daughter will be getting her surgery done soon. Try to look at it in another way, however. Every day, and every year, medical techniques improve. Perhaps, things will go even better for your daughter now that she has had her surgery a bit later than she could have.

As for being shunned......personally I love it! I was dreadfully distressed at first, well, for the first few years actually. Now I shout a cheery 'Hello' to the miserable looking dubs. I love to see them upset by it.

As for losing out academically......I know what you mean....... what can I say.

Much love to your daughter, your wife, family and self.

I hope everything goes well for your little girl and we're thinking of you.

Let us know how the surgery goes.

    Love

Gill, you wrote: "As for being shunned......personally I love it!"

When I'm honored by a Witness by them shunning me, I seem to always have to scratch my nose with my middle finger.

I hate it when that happens:-)

Garybuss I know what you mean! It's very upsetting.....not!

But there's the thing, Chuckky. It seems to take time to get to this point where the JWs just become a walking joke to you.....and of course, your wife!

    Stick with it!

    Hi Chuckyy,

Yes, I fully agree with you that the JWs messed with our minds and hearts and induced us to make poor decisions for our lives. It's never too late to get into school and get your degree. Today, there are many adult universities that are fully accredited by the same regional accrediting agencies used by the major universities. They have all of the good student loan programs, and their degree programs are quite good and tailored for the working adult lifestyle. So, don't let another day go by without looking into some kind of program. An ex-JW can no longer blame the JWs ... it is now all individual choice. This is the beauty of freedom, but failure to act, we will reap the same results as though one were still a JW.

I was an electrical engineer while a JW, and worked in the construction and operation of nuclear power plants. My problem is that I turned down golden opportunities to move way up the corporate ladder. I turned down an opportunity to be promoted to Bechtel's Purview pool of future executives, which included the company paying for me to get my MBA at UC Berkely, which is a very respected university. From the pool the company selects its vice presidents who are groomed for promotion to senior executive positions within various corporate entities. This also positions one to get called to duty in a Presidential administration. Bechtel has supplied several to our government, such as Casper Weinberger, George Shultz, and Phillip Habib at the Cabinet level and others elsewhere in government, such as Cordel Hull, Jr. who served on the Federal Reserve board. I personally met these people when at Bechtel ... but, turned down opportunities all because I was "Anointed" and was going to heaven to rule the whole damn planet!

But, I am back in university now and shifting my degree to business. Once obtained, I hope to get into a good law school. I am now 55-years old ... so it is never too late.

Sorry to hear about your problems and the anguish with JW's. I look forward in my life
and imagine some anguish, but I will try to keep Garybuss's attitude in mind.
I will focus on non-JW family, start making friends again. I think I will do fine if I don't let
    them get to me.

As a JW, how did you get a job as an electrical engineer in a nuclear power field without college? Is college not required?
