Jeezus, Jeezus,
My wife said that I would draw much flack if I posted “let the women be silent”.
Jeez,
I was only trying to resurrect your buddy Paul a little, after all he revealed his motives by saying: For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.
I never expected that this post would create such, hilarity and frivolity.
May be I should stick to nursery rhymes and maintain the frolic, huh?
Like this one:
What are little boys made of?
What are little boys made of?
Snakes and snails,
and puppy-dogs' tails;
That's what little boys are made of.
What are little girls made of?
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice,
and all that's nice;
That's what little girls are made of.
It is “ clearly evident” from the context of this verse, that it was originated by some girl or her mother, to tease little boys and make fun of their wagging whing dings, because they were not getting enough attention. Boys ‘re boys, and girls ‘re girls and vive la difference.
Ya and a nudder ting…
Sticking out ones tongue with tongue in cheek with emoticons is a girlie thing. A boy would use lower extremity appendages to express his disapproval, like mooning.
Now, Outlaw, the first out of the pull-pen, brings up the scenario of a woman tied to a stove, barefoot and pregnant, which is truly very archaic. In this modern day and age, it is not very practical for the modern dominating avant garde male to do so. I was recently lured by my wife to window shop stoves, with all the bells and whistles, ceramic tops, self cleaning etc, fifteen hundred bucks. I could buy a good welder for that amount. Also if she was barefoot, how could I send her out with the garbage in the snow? Better she wear gumboots and a babushka. I think I will buy her a wheelbarrow for Christmas.
No, Outlaw et al, what one should do is take an ancient book, find some texts, take them out of context of their times and circumstances, then use them to establish your aspirations, by brain washing your woman or a number of them to believe your explanation of ancient texts and henceforth plot out the course of their lives. That way you have them hog tied, self supporting, devoted for life.
Unless….
Unless someone, or the individual herself, wakes her up and convinces her that she has been fed a load of hogwash from a scum bucket and breaks her free from her inhibiting bonds.
The purpose of the post “let the woman be silent” is an endeavor on my part to break the shackles wound about the psyche of both women and men that stifle their lives. In Paul’s day it seems that in view of the distress of the times it was inappropriate for women to publicly become known as prime movers and teachers of society. In other words to quote my wife, Paul was telling the woman to take the low ground and not the high ground; passive resistance, not aggressiveness. Today, in my opinion, brought about by Christianity in the western world itself, freedom of public speech by woman is greatly improved but not yet total.
Therefore the gospel of belbab: I do not permit anyone to use Paul’s words “let the woman be publicly silent” be used to enslave the minds and hearts of any woman today.
This post is dedicated to the unknown pioneer girl who in during the winter of 1967, during the worst winter since 1907 in Montreal, died of pneumonia after going out in the door to door work before she was recovered from her illness. She just had to get her time in. I wrote a letter to Pappy Knorr himself and raked the sunabitch over the coals good and hard. The only indication that the WT ever received it, I gleaned from an article in the Kingdom Ministry encouraging the brothers to dress warm and do apartments etc.
Hopefully, if the universe allows, more later.
belbab, of the pecker-head and tongue in cheek class.
I think it was again an example of comments Paul made in his time that were then extended to our time without considering the setting and context in which he made them. Another example to me where JWs are far too literal in their interpretations of the scriptures.
Back when this was written, didn't the men wear dresses??? Hmm . . .
Ohh yeah, Ms. Jones - can I have some?

I understood what you were saying, and knowing both yourself and your handsome, talented and articulate wife very well I could do nothing more than agree. <---------- Girlie emoticon.
Christianity is without doubt one of the most flexible of all the religions, allowing its basic doctrines not just to mould its own societies, but to relatively quickly develop around the philosophies of the day. Perhaps its initial fragmentation is its strongest survival instinct as its ability to adapt and evolve has helped it grow well beyond Islam, its closest cousin. Perhaps the greatest of all humanitarians have been impelled for the good of society through the attachment to their Christian faith.
Personally I think Paul was a bit of a misguided, misogynist git and set back the cause of Christianity even unto this day, but I guess we must differ on this one. I am sure your wife agrees with me though. <---------- Another girlie emoticon.
Take care Belbab - HS

Sorry, we drank it all!!

Since when have the "times" not been disstressful? So is there never a time to put away old sexist ways? Give me a break. The reason why Paul said what he did is because he himself held the common view that women were inferior, either mentally, spiritually, or whatever. There is no other realistic explanation of his overtly sexist beliefs. If God inspired the Bible, he simply could not foresee a time when sexism and other forms of bigotry would become unacceptable. I choose to not believe that God inspired the Bible, and that Paul was merely reflecting the view that was common at the time in the male-dominated society. Stop trying to jump through mental hoops to rationalize what is obvious sexism found in your precious book.

....and please Jehovah, spare Daniel the fate that awaits him if he doesn't put faith in you and your son and your word the bible....and don't let him get swallowed up in the big crack when armageddon comes. Through your beloved son I pray, amen.
