Astonishing Publisher Peak in Britain for August 2006

I spent too many years as Congregation Secretary . The way I did the report was to count up the report slips and use that as the number of publishers in the report to The Society. That is how my predecessor taught me to do it and I never questioned it . If a publisher suddenly produced reports for August, September and October, I would count 3 pubs. for October.

I think that late reports from July, youngsters growing up and immigration all influence the figs. It is still bumping along the bottom ...

Some are mentioning the "end of the service year". I tend to believe the individual JW is not too aware of when the service years starts or ends.

By the way: Has anyone got the Jan 1 Wt for 2007?

The first issue of each year publishes a census report of WT followers worldwide. This should give us a more rounded figure.

    Cheers

Does Brother Weak count as 1 or 3 publishers that month. Can any ex-secretaries clue us in?

I used to count 3 - but perhaps not all secrtaries did

So we have a handful of former Secretaries weighing in, and it appears that the official policy when someone turns in time for two months in the same month to count 'em as two publishers. Oops, wait, count 'em as one but total the hours.

Since it can't be both, the only logical conclusion is that Secretaries aren't consistent in following the guidelines. And that makes it clear that the numbers have to be inaccurate.

As I have said before: If the numbers we KNOW (field service hours) are so far from accurate they are laughable, why would we assume the numbers we DON'T KNOW (any 'worldwide' figures) are right on the money?

This is a prideful, manipulative cult with a numbers fetish. Stop expecting either reason or accuracy from this source.

The only real answer to the question ("Are they growing?") is what you see around you. And what I see is this: Twice the population as 15 years ago; same number of dubs. Call it what you want, but don't call it growth.

There is bound to be a degree of error. The point is how accurate the figures are. Evidence suggests (such as the census reports I linked above) that JW figures are highly accurate alongside comparable figures from other religious bodies.

Rubbish. That is to throw critical enquiry out the window in favour of a "feeling". How's the economy doing? Never mind statistical analysis - how do well-off do you feel? Is the glode warming? Don't bother with measurements - do you reckon it's hot in here?

    SFB:

Perception is often reality. In my world, the dubs are in trouble. They are not growing. I helped built seven or eight Kingdom Halls. We couldn't put them up fast enough. In the area where this took place, there are exactly the same number of dubs as there were in the early 1990s. Meanwhile, the population of that area has grown 2.5 times. That means there ought to be 5 halls where there were two, and 750 dubs where there were 300. But there aren't any more -- dubs or halls --than there were.

You may not wish to view these as "statistics." But they are real numbers, not imaginary. And they relate to a specific geographic area, not some hypothetical place. We moved hundreds of miles away to another state and we have over the past decade seen precisely the same "statistics" here. There just isn't any growth.

So you can rely on the Society's numbers all you want. But I repeat, this is an organization that encourages people to make up the monthly field service reports they are required to turn in. This organization turns a blind eye to figures they know are bulls---. There is not a congo secretary who doesn't know dubs are manufacturing these reports. There is almost no single elder anywhere who is not putting down a predetermined number on his monthly report, a number designed to maintain the status quo as regards his position. This kind of corruption permeates the organization. The average publisher is fully aware that four people can go out in Service together and all four could conceivable report different hours. There is a don't ask, don't tell policy in force.

Like you, I used to think dubs were scrupulously honest. But they are guillt of gross dishonesty and deceit in so many areas, I no longer believe anything they say.

Peak publisher figures are a nonsense anyway.

Exactly. Like I said before, I live in the second fastest growing county in the U.S. yet the local congregation is the same size as it was 10 years ago.

The only "increase" they are having here is with Mexican immigrants.
