Here, I put the information you gave in your initial post and did the graph (hope you don't mind). It's actually quite pathetic when you consider the number of hours they spend preaching..............

Thanks Mary. It doesn't show dramatic increase, but it does show a slight upturn I would say.

It means the Witnesses are not going to bleed to death any time soon at least...

How long has it been since they allowed the 15-minute publisher for the elderly and infirm?

I'm wondering whether that increase has anything to do with the increase. People who were previously counted as Inactive™ or Irregular Publishers™ can now just put in a 15-minute report each month and feel like they're doing their part.

It would be even more interesting to compare the total number of hours spent in the preaching work. Then you take the number of Pioneers™ and Auxiliary Pioneers™ and subtract their required number of hours, leaving you with the total hours for Publishers™. Then you divide the hours by the number of Publishers™, then divide again by 12 months to determine the average hours per Publisher™. It's usually not very impressive.

The 15 minute rule would have had an effect on the percentage increase for one year, that's all. And that was about three or four years ago now...

A reasonable person would not call the numbers you describe as "astonishing." They are worthy of discussion, but that is about it.

Well obviously, but I wanted to get people to at least read it.

And I think it is worthy of discussion, as you say.

Maybe not membership wise, but they seem to be taking a hammerring in some areas.
This is an extract from a thread posted by a current jw a few months ago, speaking of
what is increasingly becoming a major area of concern for the wts legal department:

the legal dept is focusing much more on child abuse cases , which are “a nightmare“.

One might think the "nightmare" they are referring to there could be to do with how
much money fighting such cases is costing the wts, and it's doubtful that the costs
will decrease in the future, just the opposite. The wts may be able to keep it's membership
numbers up for now, there must still be plenty of children of jws to blackmail into baptism,
but they can't afford to keep haemorraging cash to pay for all these lawsuits forever, there
must surely come a time when they run out of property to sell and cutbacks to make.
Maybe the members will eventually get wise to what's happening as well, and start to
leave in greater numbers than they are joining. Whatever, the wtbts may not be bleeding
to death yet, but that day may be nearer than some might think.

AMEN ,BROTHER DEDPOST,IF THAT IS CASE!

    Thankyou badboy.

I don't have any figures to back my theory up of course, as I am sure you know
the watchtower only tells its members about the court cases it has won, and news
of legal defeats tends to stay in Brooklyn, unless of course they are reported in the
    media.

However, I believe it is logical to conclude that the watchtower are concerned about
the cost of fighting such cases, especially if they are losing them and are being forced
to pay out large sums of money in compensation to the victims. It seems that victims
of child abuse within the wts have lost their fear of the organisation, and are looking
for revenge for what they have sufferred due to the often inadequate implementation
of the much-revered wtbts child abuse policy, and are hitting the watchtower where
it hurts them the most - in their pocket.

Looking back to the first posting by Slimboyfat

This "astonishing" publisher peak he gives is just that a peak of 129,482

The average for 2006 was 122,112 ..still less than it was 10 years ago.

Why the 7,370 difference between average and peak ?

The average for 2005 was 121,166 ...2006-122,112 an increase of 946.

    Yet they had 2,535 baptised.

Is there any influx of immigrants going on in Britain right now?

In the USA, the influx of Hispanic people has fueled the minimal growth it appears - I state this without empirical evidence, but believe that has been discussed before. Many of these families are quite large, and they are often lonely and vunerable to Jw influence. Additionally, they are limited by language, and so tend to move in those circles. Kinda like the plague - one gets the 'truth' and several may follow them 'in'. We have seen many Spanish congos pop up in this area - while the typical English one's are stagnant.

Maybe that could explain some of what is happening in Britain? Just a thought.

    Jeff
