Starbucks

I don't think that Starbucks discriminates. My brothers MIL was working there for years (and transferred several times between SEattle and San Francisco area) is middle aged, and very overweight. She has a sweet and warm personality, and that is what they want. You need to have youthful amounts of energy to do the work, and the pay isn't great (tips can be in some areas)so that is prob. why you see so many kids there. Benefits are pretty good for what is basically a fast food job. They do have some awesome marketing, but I don't think being successful is a bad thing.

And to the guy who has tatooed workers-I go to those places too. Most of my coffee experience is on the run, and in a car. But walking in town is nice for the places that aren't chains. Chains are nice though, cause you know what to expect (which is why McDonalds got rich on reliably fast food-and occassionally superior fries)

JWDaughter, have you been to Victrolaon 15th? It's my favorite shop when I'm down in Seattle.

I am south of Tacoma, and rarely get to downtown anymore. I haven't heard of that place, but when I do my Christmas in Seattle thing, I will have a lookout for it. Is it near anything I would know of? (Besides Starbucks??:) )

Michigan's alternative to Starbucks. We do have a few SB's here in town, but the anti-SBer's go to Beaner's.(and no, it's not run by the local mexican population!)

Oh, and Beaner's offers wifi for free. Try and find free wifi in the majority of SB's.

I used to love Starbucks but the last several times I bought a cup of coffee from them it's tasted bitter, scorched, and just plain nasty. So I don't end up drinking it. I've found more local places here that are slightly higher in price and definitely worth the drive.

    I love Starbucks!

When you travel all over the US or Canada (Like we have)...it's great to know where you can get a "consistent good cup of coffee"...

Of course, I use a lot of cream.....(getting my calcium you know)
