Yeah, I have...but I don't see it having anywhere near the impact. And it seems it would be too hard to encapsulate in a small article or even series of articles. How would you see it best approached?

I would be willing to e-mail him and complain if he doesn't put you on the show. Best of luck, keep us posted.

Maybe I needed to say clearly that despite my reservations on Dr. Phil, I think we should all support J - ex- W on this important issue.

I had never heard of the "sleep aspect", but I do know of an ex-JW lady about my age who reported a spouse-rape (awake and screaming) to the elders. You can probably just guess what she got told. Turns out the perp was an elder's son. When he got caught outside the marriage, she had to go to a different congregation to finally get a clean divorce. She is still in my circle of ex-JW friends.

Although this is all perfectly horrible, I kind of follow the logic about just taking the sex abuse issue on its own without tying in the religion. My logic is that both these issues might prove confusing to some and dilute the power of the message...for example, this has great potential to help women in other religions (or in no religion) who face the same problem. Maybe we should avoid making this appear to be a JW-exclusive issue. And, as others said, it might make it easier to get on the air if the religion is left on the table.

Having said that, isn't it in my memory somewhere that Dr. Phil did do an anti-parental abuse segment on the Amish a while back? So, is it just the fear of the WTS that keeps him from blowing the whistle on the Witnesses?

I'll be very surprised if Dr. Phil Show calls though. He has ignored all emails and phone calls when it comes to THIS cult.

I agree. I wrote to him about 3 or 4 years ago. My story was about hidden abuse of wives within the organization. No reply at all.

Thanks for your support. We'll just wait and see what happens. If nothing comes of it this time, then we can try again at a later date with a different (Dr. Phil) upcoming topic.

Why would Oprah or any other talk show host(tess) be afraid of a lawsuit? I mean, when the Catholic Church wrnt through the whole pedophilia thing, lots of TV shows talked about it and had victims and commentators on their show and I don't remember hearing of any lawsuit brought on by the RCC. I mean, they could try and sue but I don't think they'd have a case whatsoever! justahuman - but super nonetheless

I was contacted by the Dr. Phil Show a month or two ago. A jw woman had kidnapped her kids. The father had court order visitation but no access. They said if they could get her on the show they wanted me as an expert. As I suspected, the woman refused. Any media attention is a good deal.

Bryan---- Dr. Phil's Show wanted you as an expert on...what? JW's? Parental kidnapping? So, is anything going to come of that 'story' idea?
