"It amazes me at the mental gymnastics some thinking people resort to because they just have to believe in a god." I dont think the first post was a case of mental "gymnastics", more likely mental retardation...LOL....

Hi Everyone:
My theory is not as underhanded as it sounds. After all, didn't God tell Adam not to eat from the tree of knowledge planted in the middle of Eden? Why would God create such a tree and leave it in plain sight for Adam and his wife to see? Wouldn't that be considered underhanded? Perhaps this wasn't underhanded. Isn't it possible that God was giving man the CHOICE to follow God or go his own way? We are not in the Garden of Eden but God still has to make sure we have choices right? What better way of doing this than by leaving things for us to ponder over and make up our own minds? If these theories are true, than where does that leave Jesus? How do we know that Jesus was not a test given to us to see if we would follow a 'prophet' or God's commandments? -

Santisimo,
Your ideas are not "theories." They are nonsense. The Garden of Eden and Adam and Eve never existed, so your trying to create these silly scenarios is laughable. God as a toddler is right!

But if he plays dirty like that, what chance do you have? After all, maybe he created the big bang in such a way that it would intricately grow and evolve into the wondrous universe we have, and THAT is what you're supposed to praise him for.
But then he slips the Bible and that creation-story stuff in to throw you off track -- to see if you'll use your god-given reasoning ability, or if you'll just believe any story handed to you.
What if the BIBLE is the test? What if rejecting it in view of all of the evidence is what will please him?
And this sort of sneaky stuff would fly right in the face of his "god of love" claim.

"Isn't it possible that God buried these bones to preserve our freedom of choice? After all, if God made it too obvious that he created everything we wouldn't have much of a choice about worshipping him, right?"
People who manufacture fake relics and fossils to fool the scientific community into thinking such things actually existed are usually prosecuted for fraud, ordered to pay fines, and sentenced to jail. Your version of God makes these guys look like small-time con artists. -

After all, didn't God tell Adam not to eat from the tree of knowledge planted in the middle of Eden? Many Jews believe this is a story explaining what would happen to men, when they wanted to have the knowledge of good and bad- something that animals don't have. Animals operate on instinct. There is no moral decision to be made when one animal attacks and kills another. The beasts of the field also have no knowledge of their impending death, either. God tells Adam that he will pay a price for obtaining this knowledge of good and bad. Adam will worry about death, have to deal with moral issues of right and wrong and suffer physical & emotional pain. Has it been worth it?

What kind of idiot god plays those kind of mind games, filling the earth with tons of physical evidence completely the opposite of what this god is telling you in his supposedly inspired and infallible holy book?
Hell, what kind of God gives a man a HUGE sex drive, and then sets up rules against having sex?
