Interesting questions about evolution, created and the WTS.

Isn't it possible that God created the universe TO LOOK OLD?

Think about it, when God created Adam he was a full grown adult - not an infant. He created Eve as a full grown woman.

Is it hard to believe that God could create a universe fully formed? If God has the power to create, and is above everything, what is so hard about creaing the universe in six days?

And about the dinosaurs. Just because there are bones in the ground it doesn't mean they EVER WALKED THE EARTH. Isn't it possible that God buried these bones to preserve our freedom of choice? After all, if God made it too obvious that he created everything we wouldn't have much of a choice about worshipping him, right?

Is it possible that the WTS fell into the trap of making the Bible view match the opinions of scientists? Shouldn't the WTS have more faith in the Bible and BELIEVE AND TEACH that God DID CREATE THE WORLD IN SIX LITERAL DAYS? Wouldn't this show more faith, more credibility than folding to the thoughts of scientists WHO HAVE BEEN PROVEN WRONG ABOUT MANY THINGS?

Excellent question, but if he were to create an entire universe with pre-fabricated ancientness, then why doesn't he include a book that has already been interpretted correctly?

    Santisimo,

Your points are common, fundamentalist ideas, which just seem silly. What kind of idiot god plays those kind of mind games, filling the earth with tons of physical evidence completely the opposite of what this god is telling you in his supposedly inspired and infallible holy book?

Then on top of that, he threatens you with death because you believe the massive amounts of physical evidence that disprove his bible. That god is one sick mother!

No, these are old ideas that don't make any more sense now than they ever did.

That's an interesting theory about making things look like they are old. that's underhanded though. If we must beleive that some entity created this universe then why can't we apply science to the bible and say that evolution is the process of creation. This makes god an even greater entity. To put in place a system that unfolded over a period of 5 billion years and takes into account the dinosaurs and all other phenomenon that the bible is very week in explaining. It's mathematical genious befits the creator even better than by saying he did it so quickly. ta da. The way I see it there have been other creatures that we know preceded us that had intelligence. If you have to make it fit the bible we can say that god picked up the story of humanity with adam and eve. Personally I don't like mixing the two. We can now extract dna and know who are ancestors were. The neandrathal had intelligence and used tools and even left flowers at there graves yet we do not share there genes and they died out many thousands of years ago. If scientists were trying to peice everything together to explain us they could overlook that fact. We do know we are descendants of homo sapiens and this goes back 2 and a half million years. A very short time ago in terms of the history. We simply cannot comprehend that amount of time. The problem is evolution cannot be witnessed. No pun intended. It takes generations for necessary changes to take place. However, it is possible to veiw evolution under the microscpe. Viruses breed extemely fast. Several generation before your very eyes. If with the intoduction of antibiotics just one protein molecule adapts it renders the antibiotics used to treat it ineffective. you have just witnessed evolution. I actually have other examples, but get the idea.

Perhaps God created the world last night, including our own memories. Perhaps he does so every micro-second.

That's about the reasoning Descartes was holding in his first Meditation when he reached the famous (yet often misunderstood) cogito ergo sum (I think, therefore I am) as the only secure ground of knowledge.

    Narkissos,

Were you this smart when you were at Bethel, or have you done all your learning since?

Even the bright Witnesses I know don't go in much for philosophy. Most are technically smart (i.e. sciences), and those minded toward the arts and humanities tend to stick to literature and away from social science and philosophy - and of course proper theology and Bible studies.

    Gumby,

I've yet to see that one... thanks for the tip (and back atcha)

    slim,

Thanks for the compliment, but ironically I left high school to pioneer before I had a chance to attend a philosophy class (not that smart, eh?). For the next few years I read only the Bible anf WT literature... only at Bethel I started reading againand realised I was thirsting for it.

I can remember a number of really bright JWs, especially in Bethel. Mostly born-in. Funnily the best literary brains ended up in the truckdriving team, by their own choice (they were away from Bethel most of the time). I remember being in the room of one of them, shortly after I got there (still quite naive). I was looking at his huge WT library and he told me "it's all crap actually, except perhaps the Aid book and a couple of others". I instantly understood what he meant even though I could never have voiced it by myself. Once I made a typical WT comment at the Daily text and he kindly told me how it was pure nonsense from a philological point of view. He was instrumental in my starting to learn the Bible languages. He also had very funny and incisive comments, tongue-in-cheek -- one day he sternly summed up the history of "Beth-Sarim" at the Daily text, to the consternation of the Branch Committee. I often thought he was just too bright to take even "apostasy" seriously.
