I'll rephrase that so not to appear so US-centric. How are you or how did you ring in 2007?
The last few years have been very low key. Going out lost its appeal for a number of reasons - too crowded, too many DUI road blocks (not that I condone driving drunk but it doesn't take much to reach .08), maybe some anti-social tendencies rearing their ugly heads. But this year I'm going to the local New Years Eve Extravaganza (yes, an Extravaganza) with people dressed in tuxedos and evening gowns, a balloon drop at midnight w/ champagne, three bands, food...pretty much the kind of event I steer way clear of. Why would I of all people attend something like this? Well, a couple of nights ago I ran into a woman I barely know at a bar. We had a couple of drinks and chatted for a while. When I was getting ready to leave she asked me, out of the blue, what I was doing for New Years Eve. A beautiful woman asking me, a lump of coal if there ever was one, out to the New Years Eve Extravaganza. Why, one might ask, would a beautiful woman ask frozen one out to the so called "social event of the year." Personally I never ask questions like that as they are self defeating. All I know is that in a couple of hours I'll be putting on some clothes of mine that are the nearest thing to a tuxedo that I could put together on such short notice and then I'll hit the town with a beautiful woman on my arm on our way to the Extravaganza. Hope all of you have fun, too.
Happy New Year everyone.
