Was I just shunned?

Last night I walked into Walmart to pick up a few things. Went to check out. Said hi to the cashier. I get nothing. Not even a smile. Zip. Now mind you I have on a really nice coat (that my mother gave me) and am fairly dressed up but no make-up. The cashier is of small stature, rather plain and oh I should say black a bit darker than me. Well I didn't think much of it until as she's ringing me up a black gentleman get in line behind me and says hello to the cashier. The cashier all of a sudden perks up and says "Hi! How ya doin'?" I don't think she knew him. I was stunned. But since it was late (about 1am) and I wanted to get home, I said nothing. The woman didn't even wish me a goodnite, even after I thanked her. Zilch.

This happens every once in a while to me and it's always a black woman who does it.

Hmmmm.....I'm kinda at a loss here hon. Is this woman a Witness? Why else would she treat you like this? Me thinks I'm missing something here and not getting the Big Picture.

That's curious, MrsJones. I noticed your reference to her being a bit "darker" than you. Do you think that might have something to do with it? Does that sort of thing happen today?

I think it had something to do with what I was wearing and the location of the Walmart. It's in a pretty afluent spot but a lot of the retail workers live elsewhere. I could tell even before I got to the counter that she wasn't happy I was there but she was the only lane open. It's more of a class issue I suppose but it feels an awful like being shunned by a jw which has happened to me too.

I think it might be more jealousy than shunning. Some people like to say or treat those who they secretly wish they were or looked like.

Let me see, a well dressed tall woman...

So were you able to find the "Cross Dressing Sista's Quarterly" okay?

You found someone working in a Walmart? Even cashiers are scarce here. Maybe she thought you were hot and got a case of the "ohmygodshe'shotandIcan'ttalknow"?
