    My first thought was, Maybe the guy behind you was cute? She perked up for the cute guy...?

    You were snubbed, not shunned. Those two words are very different, if related.

    Snub: = behave coldly toward; slight, to treat with discourteous reserve;

    Shun: = To avoid deliberately; keep away from;

    So to snub, requires one to NOT shun.

    So were you able to find the "Cross Dressing Sista's Quarterly" okay?

    Oh my gosh that brings something to mind. When I was 26 I worked at this budget clothing manufacturer in San Francisco. One day me and a few of my coworkers decided to go out to the Hard Rock Cafe. Nothing was going on there so we decided to go to a piano wine bar. I felt totally underdressed so I went home, got dressed, and met up with them at the bar. No one told us that it was a gay piano wine bar, even though the guy who invited us was gay. Duh! I walked in all decked out in a short black dress, fishnet stockings, and high heels. Got a lot of compliments. Realized later that the majority of the guys in the room may have thought I was a drag queen! lol I had the best time.

    You're right Gary, I was snubbed. Shunned or snubbed, neither feels very good.

    This happens every once in a while to me and it's always a black woman who does it.

    FWIW, I am as white as Casper the Friendly Ghost and when I'm in stores/restaurants with my black friend, she gets snubbed quite often. I noticed it w/o her pointing it out. People say hello to me and completely ignore her....and just like you're saying, it's done by black women too.

    Strange, in this day and age, you'd think people would be a little more.....sane.

    There are also women who just don't get along with other women. Was the guy behind you attractive? Maybe she was trying to get you out of the way a fast as possible so she can have a quality check-out moment with him.

    Hm, no he wasn't drop dead gorgeous more along the lines of Danny Glover and that may have been her speed but it was very apparent that this woman wanted nothing to do with me, she said nothing to me. The only thing she did was look at me didnt' ask how I was going to pay (I had a giftcard which I gave to her saying "I have a giftcard"). She said nothing to me when she gave me back the card. Not even when I said "Thank you" after she rang me up. Now I've been a cashier and I know that a cashier should be focused on the customer in front of them (not the next customer) and extend good customer service by by being courteous, she was none of that.

    here in the Uk there is still and undercurrent of animosity of members of the caribbean community and those of the African subcontinent ie Nigeria Ghana etc of which we have alot of there in London, so your cashier friend who is of darker skin could likely come from Africa, Burkina Faso, Niger , Kenya, Senegal, or other nations,
