Could Britain become a racists paradise?

My husband works for an engineering company. He is a highly skilled engineer and runs the maintenance department. In Britain at the moment it is very difficult to find highly skilled engineers and so firms have been recruiting abroad, only to find that these 'high' skills are just as rare abroad and also nearly as expensive.

So, my husbands firm have basically decided, to cut costs, they have written out a new contract for all their workers. In this new contract, they are NOT ALLOWED to be sick for two years. If they are sick, they will then not be paid for four days and then only at statutory sick pay rates. Also, for every day they are sick, they will lose 3/4 hour of their holiday. So you can imagine, if you have a car accident, or break your leg and are ill for a couple of months, you may well have lost your holiday rights, basically as a punishment. That is just one of the new rules but there are others just as childish.

The idea seems to be to get rid of all their staff by threatening to sack them if they do not sign. They have already advertised every job in the factory and where have they gone to get their workers? To Poland.

Their plan is to replace all their British workers with low paid, unskilled workers from Poland.

Now, on the net I cannot go into what kind of firm this is except that the product they make has to be perfect. If it is NOT perfect, thousands upon thousands of lives......yes LIVES will be at risk.

So, nealy 300 British workers are to be sacked in the next few weeks if they do not sign this new contract.

These men and women are to be replaced by low paid, unskilled Polish workers.

This is absolutely no fault at all of the Polish people but.....they may well be the ones who suffer the consequences.

Where my son works, many Polish people were recruited recently. They had a spate, in two weeks, of every Polish worker having their car windscreen smashed, front and back.

The only people to blame are the employers. It came to the attention of 'some' at the firm my husband works at that the Site manager has been offered a 40% wage rise if he can cut the wage bill to the minimum!

As more firms replace their employees with low paid immigrants, we have to wonder whether more hate crimes against the low paid workers will be committed and if employers should be held accountable for the misery they cause both their old and their new, innocent employees.

I'm wondering what race Polish people are? Aren't they Caucasian? What about people in the UK?

Is his company a union shop? I would start there. If not, what are the labor laws in the UK? Are there laws that protect workers from these tactics? I would check there and with any government representatives in that area.

    Hi Blondie!

Yes I believe that the Polish people are Caucasian, but they're still Polish and not British. Therefore, easy targets for hate crime.

Most of the firm are in the Union and have refused to sign the contract. The Union have met with the workers and will provide a lawyer for each man sacked. The letters for the sackings are ready for Friday. Can't tell you how I know, but I don't suppose that matters now anyway.

The firm have already done the same thing at their other plant. It is now running at a huge loss, as running a CNC machine is a bit like flying a jumbo jet!

The firm have basically replaced all their experienced staff and replaced them with innocents from Poland who are 'crashing' their machines so fast that they are no longer makiing a profit but a loss. Their scrap figures are astronomical. Nothing could be done at the other firm and it looks like nothing can be done at this firm either. The other firm will go bust ...... and so will this one. They had been running at a large profit because of their skilled work force. Several workers have already been replaced and scrap is up 75%. Profit is beginning to fall and they are chosing to blame it on the high wages of their skilled work force.

Does stupid management happen to ring a bell with anyone here?

Unions were emasculated by the Thatcher government in the 1980's. They have a limited use in the UK now.

Also, as I said in the original posts, these parts have to be and I mean HAVE to be perfect.

Millions of peoples lives every day depend on the perfection of these parts. They are x -rayed and examined minutely.

Just one part shearing off could instantly doom hundreds of people to death never mind anyone else around them.

Sorry to go on but you people in the US, Canada, Australia, all you 'Fighter Pilots' and 'Bomber Pilots' out there should also be shaking in your boots over this!

Sounds like the plan was to have these companies go under. I wonder if they plan on relocating to another country? Worth checking with your elective representative.

I would call it an ethnic problem rather than a racial problem.

Blondie - You might well be right. The firm and its partner, is American owned. The US does do a lot of its own specialist engineering work like this and had kept these firms so far because the firm they supply is a very large UK firm.

However, the quality still had to reach perfection, which it is no longer doing.

The Poles will become the whipping dogs for the plan, whatever that might be, of the overall 'boss' of these engineering firms. Men are already refusing to train them to do their jobs.

Bus company suspended because its drivers can't read English

    Russell Jenkins
  • Fatal accident prompts inquiry
  • 16 defects found in company fleet
  • A bus company has been ordered to suspend its fleet because of concerns about vehicle safety and whether its mainly Polish drivers have a good enough command of English to understand road signs.

The owners of UK North and GM Buses Ltd, one of the biggest companies in Manchester, have admitted that they do not know how many of their staff can speak English.

Beverley Bell, the North Western Traffic Commissioner, ordered the company to keep its 74-bus fleet in the garage after a public inquiry that was prompted by a fatal accident.

Ms Bell said that she took the action to “ensure road safety during the festive period”.

She is critical of the way that the company’s drivers are assessed and trained. About 100 of the 130 drivers are Polish and many of them have a poor understanding of the English language.

She concluded that the drivers who had been recruited from Eastern Europe were learning on the job, using “real roads, real people and real vehicles” to practise their driving skills.

The suspension will continue until January 2 when the inquiry into the company’s fitness to operate will continue. Altogether the company covers more than three million miles on the city’s roads each year, including operating a number of school routes.

The inquiry was ordered after the death of Martin Pilling, 27, a signwriter. He was in the basket of a cherry-picker vehicle when it was hit by a UK North double-decker bus in Rusholme last month.

Concern has been expressed about a number of other incidents, including one in October when a bus had its roof ripped off after it crashed into a bridge.

It appeared that the foreign driver had become lost and then went the wrong way down a one-way street because he could not recognise a number of warning signs.

Inspectors from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency and police visited the company’s base three days after Mr Pilling’s death. They inspected 28 buses, and issued 16 prohibition notices for defects including faulty brakes, steering and suspension.

Documents were seized in further raids on the garage and the home of the company director, Vincenzo Casale. They highlighted concerns over alleged excessive hours that the drivers had been working and disclosed that the company had been issued with 34 notices of intended prosecution by police in the seven months leading up to the inquiry.

Senior staff were asked to provide evidence of the training that their foreign drivers received and the standards that they had achieved, but nothing has been forthcoming.

Mrs Bell said at the inquiry held in Warrington on Friday that she was not satisfied by the company’s arguments.

    Safety concerns over school buses

EMERGENCY travel arrangements have been put in place for pupils at two local schools after the bus company which takes them to classes was ordered to take its fleet off the road amid safety concerns.

GM Buses and its sister company, UK North, have been instructed by the North West Traffic Commissioner, Beverley Bell, to mothball its 74-strong fleet.

The company takes pupils to and from 17 schools in Greater Manchester, including St Augustine’s in Oldham and Failsworth Secondary School.

A public hearing resumed on Tuesday to determine whether or not the buses can return to the road.

Youngsters at the two local schools were due back on Tuesday but Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) provided alternative arrangements to make sure the children got to school while the uncertainty of their usual bus fleets future continues.

nelly136 - It has become a totally ludicrous situation, hasn' t it.

There seems to be little regard for the welfare of the immigrant workers also.

A new Polish, young man has been put to work on a machine at my husbands place. He is totally deaf, cannot speak or read English and is not an engineer. Yet he is working on a huge and dangerous machine.

The sooner the HSE get involved in sorting this mess out the better.

An agency sent a 7 month pregnant Polish lady to work at the factory lifting heavy parts! The firm had to send her home immeadiately.

A POLISH bus driver took passengers five miles back to a depot because he could not understand their directions, it was claimed.

The road was blocked by a crash so passengers pointed out a short cut through a car park.

But they said the driver's English was so poor he drove 20 minutes back to the station instead.

Passenger Jane Wilson, 26, said: "People were very angry. Everyone was shouting about the driver."

Go North East, which runs services in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, has 100 Poles among 1,600 drivers. It said: "Police told him to turn back. It was not to do with his English."
