I think you may have misread what was written. The claim that one would be disfellowshipped for reading C.O.C. is inaccurate.

If this were true (i.e. GOd's Organization has needed adjusting) then we should all be Catholic.
After all, that was the first "Organization" that God used after Christ right? I mean he used the Catholic Church to set doctrine and to actually compile the Bible. If I'm not mistaken, the New Testament was having books added and removed from it (via the Catholic Church) for over THREE HUNDRED YEARS until it resembled the book we have today.
Today, at Assemblies and from CO visits we are told to "stick with the chosen organization even if what the organization is doing seems wrong, because - after all - it is the chosen Organization." Furthermore, the Society says that God will adjust matters in his own time, so just be patient and stick with the Organization.
But if that is the case, we should have stuck with the Catholic Church - no matter how wrong they seemed to be. Because after all - Jehovah "adjusts things in his own time".

Many Jehovah’s Witnesses will state the nation of Israel
had many flaws, but God did not abandon them. This opening statement assumes that Israel really was led by God. Perhaps they claimed this in an attempt to justify their blood thirsty attacks on land that did not belong to them saying it was their gods will because the foreigners worshiped false gods. Their pillage and theft of other peoples property and killing of their own people for the smallest infringement of man made laws was also said to be obedience to their god.
Mankind has blamed an invisible God for its actions since the dawn of time. The JWs would do better to pattern themselves on a more moral nation. They like the Israelites should take responsibility for their own actions and stop hiding behind an invisible monster.

Intesting question.
This is how I have answered it in dealing with my own cognitive dissonance when we left:
Isreal:
When the Nation of Isreal was selected it was crytral clear; Miracles, water to blood, parting of the red sea, sandles did not wear out, prophets that were always dead on, so on and and on. God spoke with Moses directly. The matter was known among peoples far away.
It was these facts that were later recounted repeatedly in the writings of the prophets, in the psalms, to encourage faithful ones to endure.
Jehovah's Witnesses;
They claim selection by God with no such proof, in fact the historical evidence proves just the opposite - no miracles, they got all predictions incorrect, they had to make the Kingdom invisible, the date of it's establishment unprovable and unsupportable, the prophetic applications are cloudy and always have proved to be mere dogmatic assetion without base.
They have had to 'create' the doctrine of 'new light' to protect themselves from legitimate accusation as 'false prophets'. They have further distorted scripture to support hateful actions and disfellowshipping of those who dare to allow the Bible as thier guide without Watchtower influence.
The publications are frought with circular reason, illegitimate attack of others, misrepresentations of facts, outright lies, emotional blackmail and deceitful denial of reality. They have manufactured a doctrine called 'Theocratic Warfare' in order to shield themselves from accusation in many respects.
They are like Isreal in many ways. The primary way being the reason that the scriptures give for the Northern Kingdom's demise and total destruction - formation of 'alliance' with the nations that she herself condemns, mistreatment of her people, and a denial of the God she claims to worship. But of course the parrallel ends there, since Jehovah's witnesses only claim to be God's people, Isreal was [at least historically speaking].
In fact I have posed the following question to Witness Apologist' many times - and never got a single honest answer.
Please prove without assertion that Jehovah's witnesses were selected by Jehovah as His people in 1919, the basis for your entire claim of exclusivity.
They never do answer, and they never will, because you can't prove that such a fairy tale is true. Period.

sandals did not wear out
Considering the Jewish tradition of shoe making, this seems like a deliberate attempt to put most of the Israelites out of work and keep them impoverished and controllable.

You can not "talk" to a JW about this issue. At most, you can deliver a 30 second sound bite. I usually counter the "new light" dogma with something like this...Isn't the analogy of a "path" wonderful! I mean...if you saw footsteps in the snow leading from one destination to the other, you know the person who made those footsteps was walking with purpose. (JWs always heartily agree because they see the organization as "walking with purpose"). Of course, most of our new light is really old light...it seems we keep changing beliefs back and forth...back and forth. Unfortunately, our footsteps in the snow look more like those of someone who is lost and walking in circles!

I will not doubt your word. If you say you got it from your PO I believe you. But you should know others have bee disfellowshipped for merely reading this book. I repete my PO told me at one time a witness would be disfellowshipped for reading the book. Perhaps your PO can get up in front of the congo during a "local needs" part and discuss the finer points of the book. How soon do you think the CO would come visiting.
