JWs came to my door, and I really dissappointed myself

jwfacts, they did not have a pat response for 1925. May be one or both will research it (shows they have not read their Proclaimers book). When I first found out about 1925, it rattled my cage a bit and made me keep looking. Until the Proclaimers book came out there were not WT publications in print that discussed it.

ME - Organ transplants Yes 60's NO 70s Yes 80s

Them - God was protecting his people during the 70's as it was a new procedure.

This one is hilarious. Is that a standard JW reply?

What kind of patients except otherwise desperate cases would be offered organ transplants, especially at an early stage of surgical technology? Whom was Jehovah "protecting" exactly?

Btw don't feel bad. While it is more immediately rewarding to make a logical point calmly, a sincere emotional expression can give much food for thought later. Nobody is nearly as logical as s/he may want to appear.

    Greetings jwfacts,

I got more and more upset, started speaking quicker and at a higher pitch, giving away my frustration.

I had the same kind of thing happen to me the other day, just at the sight of two of them. They were in a small General Store. I could feel my blood pressure go up, and my heart started racing. I too was disappointed in myself for that.

JWfacts, as I was reading this ONE thing came to my mind. I have been at the door many times and have had several people rattle me and I was out done. Only now do I admit this. As a witness whether you want to admit it or not, humility is not a part of our personality for the most part. I am thinking they walked away from the door and said to themselves we really showed her, did you see how upset she was getting and not being able to prove anything.

You on the other hand, humbly admitting you felt you didnt do your best

Humility is a quality that I am desperately working on as we all need it and especially to be acceptable to God. I cannot read their hearts anymore than my own, but I really hope God keeps working with me and forgives my arrogance as a Witness.

ME - Who was the Slave before Russell?

Them - I am not a historian so I don't know, but there have been JWs since the time of Adam

Wow!!! A historian? That's like asking a J.F.K. enthusiast "Whom did JFK beat to become president?" and them saying " I am not a historian." Well then what the hell are you doing calling yourself an enthusiast, expert, scholar etc.? It's not that in depth of a question considering that this person is going door to door telling people how to live. If you don't know then don't advise.

And to say there have been JW's since Jesus is insulting to mankind's history. It is also EXTREMELY arrogant to assume that all these famous Bible people are in 'their little club'.

It kills me to think that a person who can't even track the roots of their beliefs past the last century (the furthest they go is to a time when machines and technology were abundant, hardly ancient or even "Old") is seeking out people to change.

I did not say I am d/f, and totally avoided mentioning I pioneered and was in Bethel.

I wouldn't have mentioned being DF'd, as that might have immediately ended the conversation, but if someone had told me that they had pioneered and been at Bethel while I was at their door as a JW, it would have definately caught my attention. They would have grown a notch in my mind... And I would have wondered what made them leave.

Don't beat yourself up over your response, though. You never know what might make someone think!

jwfacts; you did better than you think you did. i'm sure you told them stuff they never heard before (planted seeds). you can't open every jw's eyes. they learned more in that 30 minutes than they have in years at the hall. i wouldn't worry. they heard you loud and clear. it will not leave their mind. john

It's always harder when there are two JW's to tag team you. Their, "we don't care" answers were really a win for you. I had a JW elder tell me that my copy of the Beth Sarim deed was a forgery made up to make JW's look bad. They will never admit a householder was right on any point. But like Johnny said, they are thinking about what you said, big time, I bet.

    I think you did great.

Also try to keep in mind......they have come to your door unannounced and uninvited.
