DON'T BUY EPSON PRINTERS!

I have an old Epson Stylus C40 colour inkjet which has recently gone haywire on me.

Now I know this printer is about 10 years old - but I rarely use it, I've only changed the black ink cartridge 5 times and the colour one once!!

Now, it has begun stopping halfway through print jobs, I'm having to send one page at a time and it still isn't always successful. Last week it took me 30 minutes to print 8 pages of 16cpi double spaced text. I also find my print queue gets left full of 'dummy documents' - whatever they are.

I won't be buying another Epson either. I'll probably go for a HP - we have one at work which is very good. HP also have online live chat tech support - which is equally good as you get live support without the phone bill!!

Epson printers are notoriously crap. I have used several in the past, each one of them clonking out after 6 months. Useless junk!

I own a Cannon IP3000 now, bloody brilliant printer. 4 Cartridges cost me just under 10 bucks. So economical, fast, low price... excellent image quality. You may not be able to get hold of the IP3000 now, but the IP4000 is available and is a step up from the 3000. Upgrade to Cannon, you will not regret it.

Once burned twice shy. My experience with Canon was Bad. As school teacher I was provided with an HP. It worked well. I now own an HP for my personal unit now. No problems.

We have the Epson Stylus CX7800. It prints fine from the pc to the unit. But the scanner does not work and it does not copy at all, it leaves a black and color green full page instead of copying. So, we sent the first one back and got a second one which did the exact same thing.

Now we are awaiting a new model, Epson RX620. It is supposed to be a better model more expensive than the Epson CX7800. It's been a pain to say the least in having to be on the phone with three different reps and having to ship back the units, this will be our third time shipping the defective ones back.

I have an HP 7310 which is fairly lovely. I still regret not going for an A3 printer though.

I hate Epsons as well. The printer decides it is out of ink long before the cartridge does as well

I've experienced the same with my Lexmark. Ink cartridges are a f'n racket!

I have an EPSON RX620. It's been working fine. Great print and great scans. No problems here. Luck of the draw I guess. But I do prefer CANONS though. I got this one cause it came with a cool rebate.

ELSE: use a vacuum to suck out gunk suck in the print heads. I hear this has worked.

    Hi

I have never owned an Epson bubblejet, however all brands of bubblejet can clog if not used regularly. They recommend at least once a week. In reality I think most home computer users only occasionally need printing.

This is why if you are a member of freecycle, someone is giving away another bubblejet printer with clogged heads every day.

If they have not been left too long (maybe couple of months) you can remove the cartridges and soak the heads by standing upright in a saucer of nozzle cleaner (use the flush that comes with a refill kit).

With regard to the cost of cartridges, this is where they make the money - they give away the printers at cost price or even a loss on the basis you willl buy the cartridges where they make the profit. I just buy compatible cartridges for my Cannon made by a company called inkrite. They cost about £1.50 a cartridge and work perfectly.

I've had two Epson printers and both of them was junk. I got a Canon PIXMA iP1500 and it prints great. The ink costs less than the Epson ink too.

After going through an obscene amount of ink and using a third-party ink solvent I finally got a clean print test (and fingers that look like I brutally killed a cartoon character).

If the printer companies think they can get me to buy their over priced inks they better stop and think again. From now on I will ONLY buy the cheap-o ink. If it messes up my printer, then I've lost nothing while screwing over Epson.

If Epson wants my business, they'll have to sell their ink at a price within reality.
