Glad you survived until now, TBL. 3.00am - that sounds like sleep deprivation - isn't that torture? Don't worry too much about proving things to your parents - you can't, because they are totally brainwashed. It should be enough that you don't believe it anymore.

Hope you don't have to face an elder inquisition too soon. We'll be thinking of you in any case!

It's very hard standing up to your jw parents, especially at your age. I found it hard when I left aged 35!!

Hang in there and stick to your guns.

    Hi TBL,

I hope I’m not pasting too much from my Don Cameron book to violate his copywrite but here goes. He recommends, if you’re going to have a study (in your case you’re restricted to research WT publications) then use their own "Jehovah’s Witnesses --Proclaimers of God’s Kingdom", a book on their history.

    ...
it is a history study--not a Bible study--that proves whether
or not the Society is God’s organization. If Watchtower
history showed that this is the organization that Jesus appointed
in the spring of 1919 to teach the Bible to everyone
else, then it would make sense to take them up on their offer
of a free Bible study. But again, those who do a history
study first don’t ask for a Bible study later.

    ...

The following suggestions assume that the Proclaimers
    book has been obtained.
    ...

The easiest way for them to teach what is in this book is
to let people read it for themselves. If they really care
about helping others learn about their organization they
should be willing to lend it to those who ask for it. Although
this book is not as candid as it should have been, it
is candid enough about a few very important former teachings
that might begin to get the attention of some Witnesses
if only they were able to notice what it says. If it does get
their attention they may then become self-motivated to want
to look at the Society’s actual pre-1919 literature (Russell’s
Studies In The Scriptures and Rutherford’s The Finished
Mystery) to teach themselves if there was anything else the
Society had been teaching that would not have passed an
examination by Jesus Christ in 1919. Those who do look
will discover numerous other false teachings (including the
thirty-eight listed on page 33) along with the thousands of
false statements and reasonings that were used to support
them. They may finally begin to realize that they have not
been told the truth about the organization’s history.

    Yay, you're still alive!!

Like others said, it's time to "rock that mask" and make your escape! You can play the part of the "re-educated" young man who learns the error of his ways, and will never, ever, do it again!

I am glad you are doing ok. Because of your age, you might want to avoid confrontation for now. Show your parents respect and realize that they are trying to do what they think is best for you. You may have to swallow your pride and bite your tongue many times. But, in the long run, you will be the one who chooses what you believe and how you live your life.

No one can make you believe something you choose not to. You may have to keep your thoughts to yourself for the time being. Start planning your future as you would like it to be and then work to accomplish your goals. Try not to alienate your parents, as you will regret this later. You can have your parents and the life you long for, if you bide your time. I know at 17 you have very strong feelings about life, but trust me, these will change in many ways over time. You have your whole life ahead of you and no one or nothing can truly hold you back.
