This morning at 9am I was having a shave when the door bell rang. Within seconds my 6 year old son answered the door (it's school holidays here) and before I could towel the shaving cream off my face I heard the door close again.

My 6 year old announced "it was some people selling comics" and he handed me a February 15 Watchtower - LOL.

Having a read just now I noted an article Our Unique Solar System How it Got Here. In the article I noticed a quote "

If I as a geologist were called upon to explain briefly our modern ideas of the origin of the earth and the development of life on it to a simple, pastoral people, such as the tribes to whom the Book of Genesis was addressed, I could hardly do better than follow rather closely much of the language of the first chapter of Genesis - Geologist Wallace Pratt.

Hmm - How I so remember these convincing and powerful endorsements by leading scientists.

Surely the WTS at its patronising best?

When I was a JW most of us didn't give literature to children. Even if it was a teenager we usually asked them if their parents allowed them to choose their own reading material. I suggest taking the opportunity to send the society and local congregation a scathing letter.

Sad that they need to rely on being fast and giving it to kids who don't know better rather than adults, your son sounds smart tho - saw them for what they are, a joke

I hope your proud of him!

Finally Free - I see what you're saying but to be fair we are regularly visited as a "return call", and given the latest literature. They simply handed it to my son and asked him to give it to us. He shouldn't have opened the door in the first place.

There's so much of God's Spirit in the Brooklyn organization that their magazines have
Holy Spirit dripping from them. All they have to do is get people to read them and
(if they are summoned by Christ) they will get that Holy Spirit.

The problem lies in the people's unwillingness. To combat this, magazines are
left in laundromats where bored people become curious, or left on doorsteps where
someone might glance at them before tossing them away, or (as in your case) left
with innocent children to carry into the home. An adult might accidentally get that
Holy Spirit or the child might enjoy the colorful pictures.

Honestly, I wish I could say that I never left literature with children, but I thought
I was doing God's work with those magazines, so I did do it sometimes.

"it was some people selling comics"

    Hahaha, the wisdom of children.

They cut right through the BS. and see reality.

    An interesting read.

Apparently he went on to further clarify this quote later in life that while the Genesis account was close, it wasn't exact.

You can read his full opinion here:

I do agree that he shouldnt of opened the door without an adult....Terrible things have happened to kids alone. The fact that the door closed & the child came & handed it to you would have given someone the chance to snap the kid up.... I suggest taking the opportunity to send the society and localcongregation a scathing letter. But I do agree a letter to the Organization would be a great chance to get someone in trouble.

A 6 year old opening the door to strangers? I am trying to remember if I were resposible enough to open the door a 6. My neighborhood 44 years ago, OK. Yours today, maybe not. Teach your child the dangers. The literature, good kindling.

Its good to see that the faithfull and discreet servant is indeed giving meat in due season. The man lived from 1885 to 1981. They couldn't find any more recent quote? Dude probably knew C.T.russel. Once again an example of how the internet does the society in. Gone are the days when we had to minlessly swallow false or ancient quotes as accurate. Now all one has to do is goggle the name.
