I'm not sure if anything would convince me of the existence of the traditional "god" that many people believe in.

As Arthur C. Clark put it: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

So how do we distinguish between "god" and someone using sufficiently advanced technology to con us into believing?

I always wonder why doesn't he fill up a stadium full of down syndrome children and cure them.
Real proof, undeniable and unequivocal proof, must reach into the raw foundation of the silent and immediate, unmoving Consciousness which experiences and witnesses all phenomena.

    Hmmmm.......

Around 1950 there was a film titled: THE NEXT VOICE YOU HEAR.

God comes on the radio and says: "This is God. I'll be with you for the next few days."

I think a media interrupted broadcast might do the trick. Cell phones, CB radios, tv, radio, iPods, satellites....every manner of communication suddenly interrupted by a voice.

The voice would be heard in each person's language and dialect. (Yo, dis is God...)

For 6 days God would explain everything in great detail exactly and specifically as he/she/it intended it to be heard and understood. God would identify who/what He is and detail his plans (if any) for mankind. He would clear all confusion as to what pure worship is (or if it is even necessary.) God would explain man's destiny and precisely enumerate any steps of responsibility humankind might need to accomplish.

This would be the act that would convince everybody. Following the broadcast, every crippled, blind, lame and otherwise retarded, dying or maimed person would be spontaneously healed.

    So, are you listening God???

    Terry:

That would be a grand display. And I would probably accept such an act as proof of a pretty, pretty, pretty powerful entity. Possibly God? Possibly the Devil transforming himself into "an angel of light".

But if such an entity did really nice things for mankind he/it could serve as a provisional God. Until, a nicer more powerful one came along.

As of now it seems the position is open to the best qualified applicant.

Don't flame me, stick to the topic of the thread, but I will add my thoughts to Terry's

That would be great, but right after God was done, the slicksters would say "How do we make money on that?"
They will have recorded the words and sell them somehow (God could prevent that) or wrote them down and
started selling the "What did He really mean?" book. There will be infomercials on how to apply what God said.
There will be preachers saying the fix on the crippled isn't permanent unless you go to church, God really meant
    this church, not that one.

I am sorry to be such a skeptic, but that's my first thought when I read this. Still, curing everyone would be
    wonderful.

If it was the Devil that did this, the curing part would still be wonderful. Man would still be a mess.

Terry: "If God could do just one thing that would make it clear He actually exists in order to convince the world today---what would it be?"

    How would you answer?

I'm tough and gristly with a very high pain tolerance. I don't need to prove I am tough, I just am. Some find that out too late for them, on some occasions, because I look like a big teddy bear. Those who seek to find this out tend to find this out rather abruptly and completely.

I'm a hopeful romantic. I don't need to prove I am a romantic, I just am. Some find that out, on occasion, and they are surprised by it because they had correctly assumed I was tough. It seems incongruous to them that I should be both, but I am.

I love reading and learning. I don't need to prove I love reading and learning, I just do.

This goes on and on, but there is a point ... you have no proof I exist. None whatsoever. And yet, I do.

If I were God I wouldn't bother trying to convince you of anything. If God exists no amount of disbelief from any number of people will ever eliminate His existence, why would He feel a need to prove it?

Especially if people have misinterpreted Him as being interested in which human is having sex with which other human (for instance), He might have quite a few good reasons to let humanity percolate along for a while.
