Terry remember the movie "Death Takes a Holiday". Well, along with your suggestion, lets add not only the curing of illness but the end of death with the resurrection of all who have died. That would be convincing.

If this hypothetical god somehow managed to irrefutably prove it's existence, it would be irrelevant to me.

I simply reject the premise that HUMANS are inferior to ANY "hypothetical" creature in the sky.

I would not bow down before it, I would not worship it, I would go on about my mortal human existence self-actualizing my ephemeral life for all that it is worth.

If "it" chose to kill me for refusing to perform degrading obeisance to it, so be it. It will simply prove its murderous nature.

I am a biological lifeform. I am a human being. I am intrinsically connected to all biological life on this planet. "Supernatural" nonsense has no interest to me whatsoever.

The Bible tells us that God is Love. This one of the few things that is true. Love is not a reality but an intense emotion which is produced by the activity of our minds. It is the label we attach to that which we most value.

God is an emotional response to mankind’s need for a father figure - a big daddy in the sky. On to this male deity we can project all our emotion. We can praise him love him, blame him, credit him with having blessed us.

The creation of God has value as it has fulfilled a deep human need for thousands of years, but as humans grow and work towards enlightenment, God become a harder and harder concept to cling to.

What could he do for us? Whatever we want him to. After all we invented him and we write his script!

There are a lot of things that, if they happened, would convince me that god exists without the shadow of a doubt.

If everyone all over the world had the same dream, on the same night, of the same god, explaining his existence, and what he wanted. And if all the visions were the same (Obviously I wouldn't need the confirmation of everyone on the planet though.) I would be convinced.

If he gave me a vision of something major that was going to happen, along with an exact date. Something like 9/11 and the twin towers, or hurricane Katrina. If it wasn't vauge, I would be convinced. (You know a simple, "LtCmd.Lore, in exactly 2 months and 6 days a major earthquake will strike New York City." Or even something smaller: "LtCmd.Lore, in exactly 3 months and 2 days your uncle will give you a 50 dollar gift certificate to Radio Shack. Tell no one!")

Of even if he just appeared to me, while I was perfectly sober, and while I was surrounded by a large amount of perfectly sober and unbiased witnesses. Or if he appeared to me, or spoke to me regularly like he did with Moses.

In fact, for an all powerfull diety it wouldn't be that difficult to make me believe in him...

But whether he exists or not it would take quite a bit to convince me that he's worthy of my respect, let alone worship... After thousands of years of letting humans suffer and die, a simple "Hey, I do exist by the way." is hardly enough to wipe the blood off his hands. He'd either have to come to earth begging for forgiveness, or have a pretty darned good excuse.

Well, one thing that always hung me up was the fact that in JW doctrine, God has this great need to sanctify his name, and prove that worshiping him will bring great benefit.

The only way you could truly do that, and show up Satan as a crummy ruler, would be to have half the world ruled by him and leave the other half alone. If half the world were in paradisaic conditions, then everyone would be won over to his side. Simple, no? Satan's world is full of crime and suffering, God's side looks like a tract. You prove that you're a better ruler, and then give everyone an ultimatum.

He had to prove his worth by getting the Israelites out of the Red Sea, right? So why can't he do it now?

Of course, the big problem with the model I proposed was that the Israelites were supposed to be ruled by him anyhow, and we all know how well that turned out...

    How would you answer

He could have a weekly tv program and then take the tour out on the road. When he comes to your town he could zap you and your loved ones and then ressurect everyone. He would have to do that about once a year as people dont have very effective long term memories. In between zapping and ressurecting everyone he could share with us his ideas for making the world a better place. I dont think he wants to spend that much time on this project. He might be resting right now.

He could bring back everyones deceased loved ones. That would be an attention getter.

Also its possible that the god's of this earth are extraterretrials who seeded us here. Do we tell pigs and cows what our purpose for them is? The gods of this earth may be harvesting something from humans when they die. Or humans might be part of a process to cultivate earth. Which the Gods will come down and inhabit when they are ready.

Also maybe there are people on this earth who do know what's going on and are not talking. Maybe they are overseeing. Man is kind of like an orgainic robotic computer, spreading urban sprawl up and down the highway and out into the desert. It appears that we are made smart enough to do the work the masters want and dumb enough not to revolt.

From an objective point of view there is no one thing or group of things that would prove a particular entity is almighty or all knowing. It is like counting and saying you have reached the ultimate number. There is always the possibility that some other entity would do the "ultimate miracle" plus one.

But I would be willing to cooperate with any entity that is benevolent. And like an adopted child I could learn to call him/her Mother/Father.
