    Narkissos,

    I believe "positive thinking" is, usually, a powerful oxymoron...

    lol....Yes, you have a point.

    Steve,

    How are you!

    We are doing fine here. How about yourself?

    Since quantum physics has been proving for almost 100 years in sub-atomic particle experiments that the observer influences the outcome of the experiment, it is no great philosophical leap to assume our thoughts/consciousness can influence our experience.

    It is true that the pebble in the universal pond cannot be denied its trajectory, regardless of whether it is an action or thought. I spent yesterday morning in conversation with a person excited beyond reality ( imho ) in the prospects of Quantum Physics and how it will change humankind. She is a biochemist and attaches great significance to Quantum Physics, not just in her day-today, but in her work. The last time I saw such passion in a persons eyes, they were Pioneering.

    I think she actually believes, like my wife, in the inclination of minds to grow. I hope that she is correct, but sometimes I wonder.

    Keep smiling Steve - forever miserable - HS

    Hello JimTX! And best regards back to you and your wife.

    This may not be what you were describing...

    Well, I don't know what I was really describing, which is why I just put this question up for open discussion, with no opening opinion to "slant" things one way or the other.

    But, insofar as what you described in the rest of your post, if I may offer a remark that was made to me just the other night: "I don't care if someone calls my ideas stupid...but it really pisses me off when they call me stupid!"

    Too often the two get entangled.

    HS,

    LOL, yes even some biochemist will get giddy when they discover the impact of QM's (quantum mechanics) findings on our perception of reality. That's why so many great QM theorist became philosophers or mystics. Actually her field, biochemistry, is a side product of QM. Modern chemistry grew out of the darkness of empirical chemistry as a result of the profound accuracy of QM's description of electron shells and their need for completeness leading to predictable chemical bonds producing new compounds. But her enthusiasm sounds more like a person who has discovered that our world is not made of the stuff we see in front of us. For me it was a spiritual experience.

    And your comparison to the passion of a JW 'Pioneer' was humorous but the difference is that this lady is excited about implications of the fact finding scientific process, not a fantastic belief system based on elite interpretation of supposedly sacred revelations (in other words, not based on mythology).

    But WHY are you signing off as "forever miserable"???

    If you think you are beaten, you are;
    If you think you dare not, you don’t.
    If you’d like to win, but think you can’t,
    It’s almost a cinch you won’t.
    If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost,
    For out in the world we find
    Success begins with a fellow’s will;
    It’s all in the state of mind.

    If you think you’re outclassed, you are;
    You’ve got to think high to rise.
    You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
    You can ever win a prize.
    Life’s battles don’t always go
    To the stronger or faster man;
    But soon or late the man who wins
    Is the one who thinks he can.

    Lou Reed had a song called the power of positive drinking, I believe in that.

    Seriously, I believe in positive thinking. When I left the tower in 83, I read a lot of Norman Vincent Peals writings. I think he has better poison than the tower but if you follow it hell get your 10%. But if you follow his writings you may be able to afford the 10%.

    Actually Norman assumed room temperature years ago, but someone will get your 10%.
