Spirit Axal,
Having been on the very uncomfortable receiving end of the EXACT oppossite of what you are talking about while in school, I can safely say that it isn't the Christians (at least in the U.S. midwest) that come out worse for wear in those kinds of discussions. I have had several instructors who just can't keep their faith to themselves. Of course we, as students, are a captive audience. Invitations for home bible discussion, lectures on the instructors christian background, etc happen all to frequently during class.
One incident recently caught my intention. A higher up in the division I am in was conducting an introduction seminar for prospective students and I was assisting. At one point she commented that a particular class would be offered next semester, "Jesus willing". The"Jesus willing" comment was said with the stereotypical upturned head and eyes, with arms raised, palms forward. I had to do a double take to make sure that I had actually seen that. Given the level of professionalism needed to perform work in our field, I was shocked by this outburst.
Since she is my boss, and is very vocal about her beliefs, I don't dare say anything because I would get fired. I can never let her know that I am an atheist if I want to keep my job. Through comments I have overheard, as well as working for her for about a year, I have come to realize that she would rather have a lazy, dishonest, thieving, incompetant worker who claims to be christian - such as my direct supervisor, than to have anyone of any other faith or non-faith - no matter how good of a worker they might be.
Spirit Axal said: Just to give a more detail on it "Hey do you believe in god?" "No, i dont want to talk about that crap" then the person says, "Did you know if God is God he could stop you from falling but he wont" So its not fair for me, but its fair for them to start bashing when all i asked if they believed in God and didnt wanna hear it from me yet they wanted me to hear what they had to say, only it was bashing
I don't feel sorry for the religious when they bring up their non-sense and want to talk about it with everybody and anybody. And then get mad when others won't share in their delusions.
In other words, if you insist that the Earth is flat, and if you insist on bugging other people about it, you don't have the right to be mad when they say, "Dude, the Earth sooo isn't flat".
