I learned how to draw mustaches on everyone in the weekly Watchtower studies.
Did You Learn ANYTHING From Being A Jehovah's Witness????

I learned how even the best of us, yes even you Minimus, intelligent, smart, clear headed and well meaning people can be "DUPED". Just review the member directory since this forum started and see how many were duped for years before we woke up to this reality. That "CARROT" duped the best of people. Many still believe that the reality of that carrot is coming soon, very near. Many are coming to realize that they have been duped and that there never really was a carrot.
This among other things, is the foremost thing that I have learned from being a Jehovah's Witness.

The only positive thing that I have taken from my upbringing in the J-Dubs, the ability to speak in public.

Yeah, we all WANTED to believe this was "The Truth". We allowed ourselves to believe the lie. We used warped logic to "prove" that we were right. We chose to ignore the soooooooo many obvious inconsistencies.
We were taught to be fine liars. We learned how to justify.

I learned how to flip rapidly through the bible, finding any verse and just as quickly dismissing its context.
I learned how to suppress doubt and live in guilt for questioning my mom, elders and people I loved and respected.
I learned that my value to others was zilch if I wouldn't go to their religious meetings.
I learned how to sit still and let my imagination fly.
I learned how to cut off the legs of my nylons and make two pairs into one so that I could go out in field service.
I realized I only liked skating because it was the only place I was allowed to hold a boy's hand (couples skate):)
I have a general idea of how the bible is laid out and where to find certain subjects.

I learned that a mysterious group called The Faithful & Discreet Slave Class give us all our spiritual food at the proper time. They are made of ALL remaining members of the anointed at any given time living on the earth at one time. The funny thing is that "The Slave" doesn't REALLY give the food out because ONLY the Governing Body can do that.

From all the student talks I gave, and assembly and convention parts, I learned how to speak in front of a crowd without nerves and to put together an argument, and present it effectively. It was a good thing for me, for the work I did for many years.
I also learned how to schedule my time to get a lot done, with family, meal prep, cleanup after meals, and getting 6 people to the KH on time. We seldom ever missed a meeting, except for illness. When I was a pioneer, the scheduling was invaluable. Waste of time, but I had to schedule everything.

school manual is quite useful and I learnt a lot from it. You could get the same knowledge elsewhere but with JW I also did a lot of practice on the platform, which helped me in other areas (work) as well.
I learnt a lot from some of the PT I have given (always tried to pick practical themes and not doctrinal ones).

Several things that I can think of. The first thing I learned is that they had deep seated issues about women which I would not tolerate. I know most fundamentalist religions have these issues to some degree, but the average person in a mainstream or no religion doesn't experience this. This was a real eye-opener to me.
The second thing and related to the first is that they had issues with self-esteem in people there both men and women. In other words, they didn't want YOU to have self-esteem.
The third thing was that they did not respect boundaries. I wonder if they even know what they are.
The fourth thing I learned is that people can engage in enormous amounts of self-deception and can do or excuse anything while in this mind set.

Jehovah's Witnesses taught me that there is no god.
