OK now, I'm really an apostate

  I know its difficult to put yourself back in the JW way of thinking, but your family reacting this way is because they are BRAINWASHED and live in fear of their life. To us, it seems simple, how could they think shunning is OK and agreeable? This is what I used to ask myself about my parents shunning their only child (me of course). Yet, the strong JWs really think/or go along with it because of fear, they are doing the right thing. Its amazing to me really. I ve been out for almost 15 years, and I am still affected by the cult. I keep coming to JWD to make sure I have made the right decision, crazy.

  It is so sad that even though she wanted to mend fences with you she couldn't see the light of love shining bright enough to follow it. I am so sorry. I hate how they give us hope only to break us down again.

  Glad you found what works for you, dawg! It takes awhile to let them go, but someday it has to happen, either in this way or some other.

  I think it is better to end it yourself, on your terms and not on theirs. I feel much better for finally doing that myself.

  I know it may seem strange for people to be congratulated for making the final decision to cut one's family off, but when all they do to you is damaging, there's nothing healthier for one to do, in my opinion.

  And that doesn't mean we stop loving them or caring about them; nor that we never think of them; it just means we've finally realized that we've got to move on and love ourselves and find others who can love us back, too.
