Fisherman, have you noticed how deceptive the Society's "Armageddon Soon!" is ?

There is no "King of the North". Nor is there any prospective "King of the North" on the

horizon. Without the prophecies being fufilled, why are these frauds screaming about

    Armageddon soon?

Intervention? If you believe that God is everywhere, in everything, then he intervenes constantly

to keep the universe running. Don't believe that 'worse and worse' junk, it isn't true.

    My theory is this

If the last time such distruction was brought was Soddom and Gommorah, then I figure we are safe until men bang on our doors demanding to have gay sex with our guests. Since that is no where near happening, I figure it ain't coming anytime soon.

I reckon I didn't really believe the A thing when I was a dub. Because I don't think it ever bothered me on coming out.

Having said that there are other issues that I may find hard to get over.

Remember the WT are masters at mind control (so much so that as JWs we felt like we were fully in control of our thinking!). So it will take time to overcome.

Such fears tend to decrease with the passage of time.

I'm with you on that one Arthur. I held onto the 'end of the world' scenario a good while after I had accepted the WTS was wrong. It took a while to realize the differance between living for an event and living for life.

Fisherman, I was merely explaining what the WTS teaches and what I how I tried to make sense of things when I was a JW. The WTS still teaches that the anointed have to die to get their reward and they still teach that the vast majority of humankind will have died before the "paradise" comes and so will have to be resurrected. For JWs to cling to the idea that they will never die as part of their "reward" is a illusion that the WTS has woven for the rank and file since 1935.

I try to live my life to the fullest, treat people the way I would want to be treated, love my family and generally be a good person. I don't believe in the big A, nor do I believe that Jehovah will kill billions of people and the only way to be saved is to be true to the borg.

By the same token I'm not sure I believe in heaven and hell. Not sure what will hapen when I die, but whatever it is I don't have control over it, it is what it is!!

Yes I have. I have a different point of views now. Most of my ethics today are based on what I learned from the Bible, but I'm not religious or spiritual anymore. I do try to better myself everyday, but I don't think there's going to be any Ar-Ma-Get-It-On. In my opinion, you should not worry about stuff like that, you won't enjoy life that way, at least when you're near your end, you won't regret anything.

Amazingly, (for me), Armageddon is the one thing I have let go of.

The turning point for me was when the earth didn't explode in 2000. In the early 90's Fred Franz in a talk he gave at our district convention said this "world would end before the end of this century." I truly felt, in the deepest part of my being, he was right. I could not see how this world could continue, as it was spinning out of control.

Then in 1999 and 2000, there were several programs I watched on PBS, which just knocked me over. First was a show on Apocalyptic Religions. Never looking outside the WTBS, I had no idea about the countless numbers of people through the centuries predicting dates for Armageddon, all with seemingly plausible calculations. There I discovered Russell didn't come up with anything new...it all had been done before. I realized the WTBS were no different in their cockamamy 2,520 year calculation than any of these other guys with their cockamamy calculations. It was crystal clear.

AT the same time there were shows reviewing the achievements of this century. And the facts show that life was no bed of roses before 1914. The truth is life was extrememly difficult and hard for the working class. Living conditions were deplorable for them, life span was short, child labor was huge, let alone all the human rights issues. I feel so stupid for not knowing this...but I was drinking the kool-aid and hoping to play with my own pet panda bear in the yard of my own Swiss chalet in the "new order."

All those things literally dissolved any trust in the WTBS for any predictions they come up with. I figure if it comes, it comes. If it doesn't, I didn't spend one more minute of my precious life worrying about it.
