When I fired Jehovah as my god, I chalked up the big "A" thingy as a fairytale!!

    yes and no

yes because I realise it's entirely possible and even probable that I'll die a natural death (as opposed to at Armageddon) and I'm OK with that

no because I think something like that will happen, but I have every confidence that if there is a loving Creator he will not go against his own nature and he will not let one person or thing be destroyed just for the sake of it - having said that, if there is a creator then he has a mind far more sophisticated than mine and I won't be able to understand everything he does

I don't live my life in anxious anticipation of the end - but if it comes, well, no-one will be happier than me because this world is awful, there's such terrible suffering on all sorts of levels and the sooner that ends, the better.

I don't fear his judgment either

I never worried about it when I was in -- and I expressed my feelings about it even as a loyal dub. My parents gasped each time. .. But here goes:

I figure that our "end" could come tomorrow. Even if we expect armageddon to come in 2349, we should still be living like each day could be our last because we could in fact die. So when Armageddon comes is really irrelevant.

Now some believe that we will be raptured before the big "A" ... I don't know that to be the fact. I know God will protect his children from the wrath of that day but God has saved people from his wrath before and they ended up wandering around in the desert for decades. I believe I'd rather not live to see that day. I so know that when i die, the next thing I'll know is a life eternally in heaven ("paradise").

    Arthur:

You are absolutely right in your description of it being a mixture of three things you mentioned. I cannot stand how they are sooo hooked on ancient Israel - practically ignoring the new testament scriptures except when they want to promote their idea about elders and holy spirit.

They must love the idea of a world where they had authority to stone people to death - something they can't do now.

I have been out for twenty years so I have long ago stopped living life in fear. Not only do I see how the JW's twist scripture but all the other christian religions as well. So from my standpoint they are all screwed up. A merciful god would understand that no matter what religion you were either raised in or sought out that they were all wrong and therefore no one would be held accountable.

If a class takes a brand new test and everyone flunks it is it the student' problem or was it a flawed test from the start.

No, armageddon will not come soon, as far as we know the signs have not yet appeared contrary to what the dubs claim. Neither is following loyally the WTS a ticket to beyond armageddon because this is in essence an antichrist organisation that prohibits virtually all its members through false pretexts from entering the New Covenant of Christ and the few ones that do, it marginalises and renders useless. The kingdom has yet to appear and when it does it will not do so invisibly as the dubs claim (it happened in this way in 1914 they say)but its unusual power will in one way or other be made manifest in this world.

For JWs to cling to the idea that they will never die as part of their "reward" is a illusion that the WTS has woven for the rank and file since 1935.

I'm still in touch with various congregations and I think I can safely say that quite many JWs, if not the majority, don't bother much about ever seing A coming. They have made their own the idea that, through the 1995 change, the society itself has postponed A to an undetermined future, although they have been urged not to do so themselves, mentally. Basically, what makes many JW stick together is social life. The best evidence of this is that they avoid carefully any "spiritual" topic in their social gathering and look suspisciously to anyone who tries to draw the conversation on that ground. I experienced it not long ago during a meal as, "between pear and cheese" I mentioned that according the age pyramid of the world population, there are about 6 hundred million babies and infants below age 4 and one simply couldn't accept that Jah should destroy 10 000 babies for every spared witness. Witnesses just skip the argument, they don't want to be disturbed in their day to day routine, from bottom to top of the hierarchy.

Kingdom Ministry, March 1968, p. 4 "Since we have dedicated ourselves to Jehovah, we want to do his will to the fullest extent possible. Making some special effort to do more than the usual helps us live up to our dedication. In view of the short period of time left , we want to do this as often as circumstances permit. Just think, brothers, there are only about ninety months left before 6,000 years of man's existence on earth is completed . Do you remember what we learned at the assemblies last summer? The majority of people living today will probably be alive when Armageddon breaks out , and there are no resurrection hopes for those who are destroyed then. So, now more than ever, it is vital not to ignore that spirit of wanting to do more." I can't wait for the big A.

A great deal of the peace I feel after learning the truth abouth the troof, is letting go of the fear. "Love throws fear outside." Now, I let God worry

about eternity, and I worry about the time he's given to me in this life. And the time in this life is too short to spend even one minute worrying about an

event, that quite frankly, no one really understands. I spend my time living and not obsessing about NOT dieing.
