    Hi Closer,

I recall here in the UK when there was a strike by Petrol Tanker drivers. There was petrol in the country........but it could not be transported to filling stations. It started out....with not many taken too much notice but within a week the country was at a standstill. People could not get to work....there was no transportation....no food in the shops. It was surreal. It shows that it doesn't take too much to bring a country to its knees.

... but then we don't have the brightest, most organised government in the world do we?

I think most people treated it as a good excuse not to go to work.

Just heard on Sky News that the US vice president has been moved to a secure location 'in case of reprisal attacks'. Basically, they will tell the populous that all is fine and that we should go shopping and to work to keep the economy going etc... "there is nothing to fear"... but I think it would be prudent to exercise caution where possible.

Just wish I had a shelter, chemical suit, supply of food and some guns. Other than that, we're well prepared...

I think we can all agree that there will be more attacks here.
I think whether or not an attack was made on the Taliban, more attacks were already planed for here.
    How can we prepare?
    I don't really know.
I think we have to be more cautious when we're in a large gathering such as a stadium or any activity that will draw many people.

Other than that, what can we really do?
    Stockpile food? OK.
Keep a supply of water handy? OK.
Keep a clean pair of scibbies handy? You bet.

Other than these things, I think we have to go on as usual and just realize that we have entered a time when the world as we knew it is not any longer.

    Closer,
I live on a military base and hear many things. I know of many soldiers who have obtained gas masks, MRE's, water and such. My point is having a gas mask, water and such does NOT help in any bio attack since a lot of bio weapons can be used without warning and the effects may take up to a week to detect, the same with water contamination you may not know until its too late. So IMO gathering these items are useless. If the attack involved a car/truck bomb you may never knew what hit you. I am not trying to scare you but the facts are that the poor people in TWC could not prepare and nor can most of the population. If you can, try to stop worring. I know panic attacks because I suffer from them and I find thinking and pondering what I can do is making it worse. Try to live your life to the fullest and hope that the enemy will be stopped before they can reek havoic on our lives.

I am not doing anything special to prepare for a couple of reasons.

One I don’t live anywhere near a target, unless Bin Laden wants to kill a bunch of cows. And two, the technical difficulties of pulling off an NBC attack is most probably beyond the terrorist, at least at the moment.

Biological would have a limited effect in America. Our hospitals and emergency crews would be able to detect and respond to the attack very quickly. Basically unless you were one of the unlucky group that was initially infected you would be fine. I would recommend practice good hygiene for the next few months though; wash hands before eating, etc, etc. Just the standard things that cut down on disease transmission.

Chemical, very difficult to deliver. That Japanese cult tried it several times with no effect until they finally killed 12(?) people in a subway. Also unless you very careful with chemical weapons you just end up killing yourself. Chemical is even less scary than biological.

Nuclear. I don’t believe they have the capability. For one suitcase bombs don’t exist. Small nukes were made but they had to be carried by two people and were about the size of a duffel bag and weighed about 100 lbs. I don’t believe the Russians lost any of these weapons. Honestly if the terrorist had any of these weapons they would have used them already. Worst case scenario if they did have one or two remember these bombs are not city busters, they torch about a ¼ mile radius. If one of these goes off they are very survivable (as long as you’re more than a ¼ mile away) just get away and make sure your not downwind.

P.S. I also think of the Brits in WWII. Their country got bombed daily and they held up. I think we will be ok just dont panic.
