Well, I am thankful for the one who invited us in. It might not have seemed like I listened much that morning, but it stayed with me. Saving just one would be worth it.

I've considered it for when I move. I scared away the little old lady who came by a few years ago and I never saw her (or any other JW again) at my door. However, the other day one parked in front of my house. I got excited, but they were doing a RC on a neigbor (who has been duly warned).

You're assuming they've got enough brain cells to work out it's not the truth. I think you're way too generous in your assumption.

I'm glad I never met any folks like you at the door in field service! My knowledge of doctrine was sketchy at best. You could've tripped me up with very simple questions!

I thought of this also but I will try it wen I move to a place were nobody knows me. I would like to have a list of those questions.

Studying with a JW should only ever be done by somebody who has spent time and effort researching the JW mindset and understands the issues at hand.

You will never win an arguement with at JW, peroid. Sadly, many who study with JWs in the hope of helping them simply fall victim to their traps and end up getting in arguments with them. Love, compassion, well done research and patience are all factors. Remember, the JWs should be asked to answer questions about their organization not their interpretations.

Why glad? Did you enjoy staying ignorant? Just curious. [No insult intended - just mean to say that I would have welcomed a much earlier wake-up call. As far as I know - no one ever tried this in my case. Wish they would have.]

I thought of this also but I will try it wen I move to a place were nobody knows me. I would like to have a list of those questions.

Boy, oh boy, where to start with that. David Reed has published books on this. Wilber Lingle is another who has done so. And Kevin Quick also. Freeminds is a good place to start if you want to formulate some good questions. A lot of Christian websites have links to sites where former Jw's have developed a well laid plan for keeping the discussions focused. MM Outreach has some good suggestions in some of its articles and audio. [Very extensive audio library - free to listen.]

Just google any of the above. There are tons more. The need for careful preparation and complete understanding of the doctrines they teach is crucial. SO it is work. There are also many who have developed a small list of questions and reasoning for use just at the door, never agreeing to a 'study'. Jeff

Don't feel bad EnlightenedMind! I believe you just described the vast majority of JWs. We're just glad you're now finding your way out of that mess.

BEFORE I ever got involved with the witnesses, WAY BACK when my daughter was a teenager, she made friends with a JW at school. My daughter undertook a campaign to straighten that girl out. She went to our evangelical mentors and got all kinds of research on the trinity. She knew how to drill the anomalies of John 1:1 down to a fine art. She studied and was prepared for battle.

My heart told me, and I told her, that she was going to get this girl out with love. "Just love her" I told her.

Guess which worked, the well researched doctrinal questions or the bond of friendship? We still keep in touch with that girl. She turned out to be a wonderful young woman. No longer a Witness, of course.

Debating can be fun, but it is often not at the heart of what a person needs. Before anyone targets a JW, I strongly encourage you to search out your own motives, and be prepared to know and love that person like your best friend. Look in their eyes, share your passions and interests, and challenge them only as far as they are ready. If you are truly more interested in getting them out than winning an argument, take your time.

A list of a hundred questions is daunting in itself, and no doubt is quite impressive. But how would anyone respond to a list of a hundred questions? It would feel like you were on a firing line, facing a dozen machine guns. Anyone would run. I prefer to ask one or two questions, keeping that list in reserve, firmly behind my back. When we work through those questions, I bring out a couple more.
