  I am getting much more relaxed around people rather than - and yes im stealing someones phrase from this topic - leery.

  I'm more me rather than an automaton.

  Thanks very much for the welcome. I've found this board to be a good place to speak my mind or bascially have an opinion, without fear of backlash and isolation.

  i dont think JWs rules of social behaviour are bad. most of them are biblically nearly clear and they are good advice. if everyone treats everyone like he thinks he is treated by others things just get worse. its normal. ppl need to be nice in the first place to others. thats the secret many ppl dont know. sometimes it may feel unfair, but its the only chance for peace. period. you dont have to be a JW to be a nice person.

  Basically, the Witnesses did not write the Bible, nor did they tell Jesus how to treat people. He is the one that loved people, and treated them as he would like to be treated.

  So, because I believe that Jesus was a wonderful person, and the things he said are the right way to treat people, I follow his lead.

  I don't do this because I was a JW. I do this because I want the world to be a better place because I am in it. I do it because I do not want to act like a jerk. I don't like people who are unkind to others. Never have.

  Of course, that being said, I pretty much comport myself in the same way. Because I want my life to be even better, I try not to instantly judge people, the way I did when part of the borg.

  I also, still have trouble with saying merry xmas, etc....it was over thirty years that I thought I would die at the big A if I said these things.

  I think that I act more like how they wanted me to than I did when I was in. I don't feel the need to show so much skin, and I still do all the nice things that they preach, just try not to act how they act. But the theory is good, just not the way they put it into practice.
