If they "apologized", they'd have one apology for the public and a disclaimer for the others. And no, ot wouldn't make any difference.

I wonder when my friend "No Apologies" will join this thread.

If they ever did apologize, about 5 years later they'd come back and apologize for the apology, or deny the apology ever happened, or say "some individuals took it upon themselves to understand certain comments in the Watchtower as an apology".

I've been reading a new book that explores this subject:

MISTAKES WERE MADE (BUT NOT BY ME) WHY WE JUSTIFY FOOLISH BELIEFS, BAD DECISIONS, AND HURTFUL ACTS

    CAROL TAVRIS AND ELLIOT ARONSON

Why do people dodge responsibility when things fall apart? Why the parade of public figures unable to own up when they screw up? Why the endless marital quarrels over who is right? Why can we see hypocrisy in others but not in our ourselves? Are we all liars? Or do we really believe the stories we tell?

In this terifically insightful and engaging boo, renowned social psychologists Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson take a complelling look at how the brain is wired for self-justification. When we make mistakes, we must calm the cognitive dissonance that jars our feelings of self-worth. And so we create fictions that absolve us of responsibility, restoring our belief thatwe are smart, moral, and right-a belief that often keeps us on a course that is dumb, immoral, and wrong.

Backed by years of research, Mistakes Were made(but not by me) offers a fascinating explanation of self-deception--how it works, the harm it can cause, and how we can overcome it. Turn the page, but be advised: You will never be able to shun blame quite so casually again.

Introduction: Knaves, Fools, Villains, and Hypocrites--How Do They Live With Themselves

Chapter 1--Cognitive Dissonance: The Engine of Self-Justification
Chapter 2--Price and Prejudice--and other blind spots
    Chapter 3--Memory, the self-justifying historian
Chapter 4--Good Intentions, Bad Science: The closed loop of clinical judgment
    Chapter 5--Law and Disorder
    Chapter 6--Love's Assassin--Self-justification in marriage
    Chapter 7--Wounds, rifts, and wars
Chapter 8--Letting go and owning up

I don't think they (GB/NY) feel there is a need to apologize for any of their mistakes as long as the vast majority of followers accept the "light grows brighter" side stepping they do. It always amazes me when I confront anyone within the congregation with proof of mistakes the famous "watchtower" wall goes up between me and them.

You can never admit a mistake if you are lead by holy spirit, right?

It used to really annoy me when, reading the letters in the Awake, sometimes they would print a letter from an "expert" who had found a mistake in one of their articles. Instead of the usual thing mags do and apologize for said mistake, NO way, they would go into a lengthy explanation of how RIGHT they were If they cant bring themselves to give a simple apology for a simple unimportant mistake then in answer to your question it would have to be

    NO...........................NEVER
