In modern times such eagerness, commendable in itself, has led to attempts at setting dates for the desired liberation from the suffering and troubles that are the lot of persons throughout the earth. With the appearance of the book LifeEverlasting—inFreedomoftheSonsofGod, and its comments as to how appropriate it would be for the millennial reign of Christ to parallel the seventh millennium of man’s existence, considerable expectation was aroused regarding the year 1975. There were statements made then, and thereafter, stressing that this was only a possibility. Unfortunately, however, along with such cautionary information, there were other statements published that implied that such realization of hopes by that year was more of a probability than a mere possibility. It is to be regretted that these latter statements apparently overshadowed the cautionary ones and contributed to a buildup of the expectation already initiated.

    6

In its issue of July 15, 1976, TheWatchtower, commenting on the inadvisability of setting our sights on a certain date, stated: "If anyone has been disappointed through not following this line of thought, he should now concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint, seeing that it was not the word of God that failed or deceived him and brought disappointment, but that his own understanding was based on wrong premises."In saying "anyone," TheWatchtower included all disappointed ones of Jehovah’s Witnesses, hence including personshavingtodowiththepublicationoftheinformation that contributed to the buildup of hopes centered on that date.

An apology from the WTS looks like the above. First, they blame the rank-and-file. When the rank-and-file mull over it for a few
years, unsatisfied, they remind the rank-and-file that they are to blame. Since that's not enough of an apology (apparently, it was not)
they add in "persons having to do with the publication of the information that CONTRIBUTED" to the rank-and-file having hopes in the
    wrong area.

I can imagine the apology for all the pain the WTS has caused. I will shorten my version of their apology by about 18 paragraphs and
    get straight to the point.

Many have been serving Jehovah with the hope of everlasting life and never having to face death. They got their own
idea that this had to happen within their lifetime, because they overlooked Matt. 24:6 which says "the end is not yet."
The Governing Body deeply regrets their misunderstanding of our clear applications. Perhaps, if they had only studied
more, attended meetings more, prayed more, they would have heard the parts explaining what they missed in our clear
    understanding.
Our lawyers say we must make the following statements.
Nobody was coerced into giving all their time and money to us.
Everyone was free to leave at anytime.
Nobody was ever told not to go to the police with their accusations against anybody.
Everyone was told to make up their own minds whether to accept any fractions or whole portions of blood.
Of course, those that want to live forever in Paradise, after Armageddon (which really is just around the corner) will
recognize how God's spirit is operating upon the Governing Body. They will want to choose to listen to their
understanding of the scriptures, not holding them responsible for their choice to freely follow the Governing Body.
They understand that it is only a strong possibility and not an absolute fact that Armageddon must come soon. They
admit that they study, attend meetings, pray as much as they can because that is what they have chosen. They admit
that the Governing Body satisfied the legal requirements of Supreme Court Ruling Number XXXXX to officially
"acknowledge their misleadings." Those who choose to accept this legal requirement release the WTS of
any responsibility by reading this statement.

When I was in a session with my exit-counselor; she made a very interesting observation that I had never thought about before.

She stated that cultic organizations have a bizarre double standard where it is acceptable for the leadership to have a fault-finding attitude toward the rank & file; but it is never acceptable for the rank & file to have any fault-finding attitude toward the leadership. That, I believe, is what sums up this subject.

When someone apologizes, they are admitting that they were wrong. In Watchtower mentality, theorganization is never wrong; it merely undergoes adjustments. The organizational mentality isbased upon a concept of refinements, adjustments, and "new light". In their minds, they are never wrong. It is this attitude, that I believe is their greatest weakness; and is why they continue to lose members.

    bro,

Will this arrogant, presumptuous organization that has ruined so many lives, that loves to talk about humility and modesty, ever present a formal apology to all those who've suffered at their hands?

will any corporation or government ever apologize for the things they do/have done?

Would it really matter if they did?

no. moving on means not waiting around for apologies.

to me, if "they" ever do apologize, i hope i am so far removed from them that i remain unaware of it, frankly.

    peace,

    tetra

Good points. Yeah, I agree that waiting for any kind of apologies is fruitless. I think that Jesus' words about "shaking the dust off your feet" applies in this situation as well.

A very wise young man once told me....

I would only like to share one thought, in the interest of helping, not sermonizing. The anger and bitterness that we may justifiably feel will bring us untold harm if we can't learn to let it go. The organization already took so much from us. Why let them add our current mental peace to the list?

And when I asked him how he replied...

The same way I let go of the anger I had towards my mother. I tried to understand her and why she was the way she was. Same goes for the organization. I tried to understand what motivates the individuals in the organization. I believe most, not all, sincerely believe their own propaganda. Even when high-ranking members "in the know" begin to suspect that all is not well, they've inflicted so much psychological damage on themselves that they see no way out of "God's one true organization." They continue to participate in the dissemination of lies and false hopes for that is all they've allowed themselves to know. They think that the more they shout, the more likely that their promises will be delivered. Like a line from a song I like says, " All my lies are really wishes, I would die if I could come back new." We are to be thankful that we saw the light and had at least a short while to live in reality, as scary as that can sometimes be.

You are one terrific dude and I am sure that you will not remain angry, but hey we are all human. I am sorry your dad has stirred you up.

Do I think the WTS will ever apologize? No, because I don't think they believe they have anything to apologize for. gaahgaah

    Never!

And if they did, it would be too little, too late, especially for those who have died because of their warped blood doctrine.
