I tend to like old country from the 40's to the 80's and also Texas Swing. I listen to my own CD's in the car and seldom listen to the radio, so I have no clue what the latest country hits are.

Sorry... I can't stand country music.

And yes... I live in the middle of Texas.

Hey Prophecor, listen to some of Junior Brown's music if you get a chance, its a bluesy, honky tonk kind of music.

I think "Country" lyrics have improved immensely over the last decade,
as the old joke goes: Q: "What do you get when you play a country song backwards?
A: You get your wife back, your dog back, your truck back, your trailer back, etc.
I don't like all country music, but some of it (moreso as time goes by) rocks. I've also included some
"bluegrass", "traditional", and "southern rocK', which are very closely related,
if not nearly the same, imo.

Here's some of the best of the new and old:

I consider myself a redneck but I don't fit all the stereo types. There is some country music I like but mostly I am into the 70's and 80's rock. We appear to be a monority here on the forums since I have not found that I have much in common with most everyone else here. It seems that as soon as someone labels you a redneck they assume you are not educated, that you are a chauvinist, a racist, you drink too much and are married or shacking up with your cousin.

Ironic, isn't it? I find many "rednecks" to be the most down to earth, loving, kind,
people who would do anything for anyone. They may come across as "dumb". "uneducated",
etc- but I've learned more about love and forgiveness, and letting loose and havin' fun,
from living in a "redneck" part of the US for the last few decades than I ever learned
from my days growing up in and near the cities. Nobody fits stereotypes.

From my personal experience, there just as many, if not more, uneducated, chauvinistic,
racist, "intellectuals"- they just aren't honest about what they believe, even with themselves
many times. Get a few beers or some wine in 'em- and you've got a different story.

Whatever label someone wants to stick on me, I try to wear it proudly, as I was always taught:
"Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me."

Besides, it's somewhat in vogue to identify as a redneck these days. I've been out in the sun lately,
so I've definitely got my red neck to qualify me as a redneck, as it were, lol.

BA- Proud to be called a redneck.

Mystery, that is one of my all true favorites in the world. I hope to be able to live, love and die with that much grace, dignity and honour as Tug Mc Graw of the Philadelphia Phillies, did. The story behind that song and his son Tim is the stuff of American legends. I get a bit misty eyed, everytime I see and hear the song. God Blees, and thank you for your support.

It's that down to earth honesty that makes me pay rapt attetion to the energy that exist in country music. The stuff of my culture. R&B, can be full of so much fluff, that the words become near un-realistic. " Let me love you down " " Rub you the right way " " Lets get it on " " Do me Baby " " Givin' Him Something He Can Feel "

I love my people's music, Black Folx, don't misunerstand, but it's becoming, lately, a bit trite and tawdry. Love has been reduced to a quick orgasm or a one night stand, ( Some One Night Stands Can Last A Lifetime If Your Careful Enough ) and that heart to heart thing is missing in much of the music today, R&B, Rock, Rap, Urban Smurban, you name it, it just doesn't exist.

Country music is laden with life, energy and quite a bit of depth of character. Even amongst the women, whiskey and cheatin' songs. I love all y'all peoples, so don't get it twisted, but Country Music is having a special place reserved in my heart for it, all to itself.
