'Bits and pieces:
: Before the Internet;
The Internet was born in circa 1969.'I forgot about ARPA net & such; I stand corrected. But those were government networks, by invitation only. Wow, was the WTS on the mostly private GOVERNMENT networks?
The following corrections/additions are appropriate:
'Before the whole generation of 'hackers, probably; '
....Hackers as we know them on the Internet, today. This is why I mentioned generation. There were hackers before, on the old dial-in BBS's, too.'Before the Internet;'
...Internet as we know it. Most of this came about in the 90's. How may here had access in the 80's? If so, it was probably government issue; there was no commercially advertised traffic and none of the fanfare of the 90's version. It still didn't go seriously public till the mid 90's.The point is and still is: the current computer savvy crop of apostates likely didn't exist then & would not have had the means or opportunity to do such a deed.
IN THOSE DAYS, ALL THAT CORRESPONDENCE WAS DOUBTLESS DONE BY 'SNAIL MAIL', COURIER OR EVEN HAND CARRIED BY LAWYERS. THE OFFICIAL REGISTRATION WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED BY WIRE. THE SAME IS PROBABLY TRUE TODAY.
