yeah, it's a little flawed, allright.... they will relentlessly hound someone for "fornication" because it's very important, and they need to to keep their congregations "clean," (yuck) but it's best to let the matter of child molestation "wait on Jehovah". Check out the responses of some witnesses since this latest scandal. "It's ok, Jehovah will get his vengeance on those molesters" So now anyone who gets called to a judicial committee can just tell the elders that - "Oh, you guys don't have to worry about having a jc, Jehovah will get me eventually" flipper

Another thing, why can't the congregation applaud a sinner coming back? The angels do.

I disagree with that. How about in a case of adultery?Perhaps the wronged and devastated mate doesnt want to listen to someone being clapped and applauded who had recently ruined their life? In 90% of cases involving disfellowshipping its all wrong imo. What Adults get up to is no concern of Elders. But sometimes they get it correct when another innocent person has been Hurt and seriously wronged. Yes,in SOME instances they have got it quite correct regarding ousting Sinners.

Reading the comments almost brought me to tears, remembering my own JD hearing. I had given up all my friends, got baptised, had a baby, then a divorced, had to go on welfare after having an income of over $200,000 yearly, father abandoned kids, five kids(oldest 8), worked, suicide in family. Personal illnesses from stress.
and then DF for fornication. I drank at my stepdads funeral, and after everything I had been through I continued to drink for a time period. short time...... few months. Had sex.......one drunk night and was DF.
Any one of those things I was going through was stress enough......but combination of all, I don't know who that person was that made it.
At my disfellowshipping, I was so emotional and distraught, I don't really remember anything that was said to me. I can't imagine what it would have been like to have someone in there to be with me and support me, defend me. Or just someone there period.
I truely believed that a DF person was found to be the scum of the earth, and that committee was a sentence to death.
I hear horror stories all the time of people DF, I learned from the experiance, no person on this planet will I look up to like I did the elders in my congregation, they are imperfect human beings as myself afterall. And, my judgements about myself come from me.

Why's a religion need a judicial system? They don't. Jehovah's Witnesses aren't a religion. They're a political party called "Zion" renamed "The Society" renamed "The Organization".
The Jehovah's Witness' nature is political, their outlook is political, and their message is political. They are a government in waiting with a standing army, a legislature, a dictatorial committee sitting, a court system, and a rewards and punishment system established and in use.

Gary Buss you hit the nail on the head:

I'll have to remember that one. LOL!

Where in the Bible does it say to keep a permanent record of a person's sins and then forward that to headquarters? Doesn't it say just the oppisite?... to not keep account of injury?

Speaking of Kangaroo courts, with people who I do not recognize as magistrates or even ministers, when I asked them, who my accusers were they refused to tell me. This way I could not defend myself against them. They only have one sentence that they are good at giving out. The death sentence! This helps silence not just you but everyone around you. Spiritual death in the sense that they ruin every social connection and family tie you ever made and act like you don't exist. They have no due process and there hearing take all of 5 minutes.
There is only one way to repay your debt to this holy band of magistrates. Society in itself has prison, fines, garnishment of wages, probation etc. In witness world you can repay your debt in only one way. SHOE LICKING!

It is unjust. One cannot have justice behind closed doors. Who holds the Judge to account? The observing public. The Jewish community knew this (Amos 5:15), and our modern judicial system confirms it. As for an appeal mechanism, it's necessary. The Talmud built one, and modern courts have it as well.

Another achievement of this legal system was its openness; the court sat in the city gate, open to the eyes of all who came and went. There was no place for lawyers in the functioning of the courts; rather, the judges themselves did the investigations, cross-examinations, and summations of the positions of each side. Thus, everyone could be represented before the law irrespective of economic, class, and occupational considerations.http://www.biu.ac.il/JH/Parasha/eng/shoftim/hey.html
