KNOCKING is on PBS tonight- haven't decided on watching for wife's sake

The wife will probably think that she should avoid it. But she would listen from the other room.
I haven't decided whether to watch it for her sake or not. I already saw it at the sneak preview
and interview with the writer/producer in the theater, so I don't need to see it.

Again, my take was that it won't convert anybody to JW'ism, but it tries to normalize their
rank-and-file. To a loyal JW, it will succeed in normalization. To a non-JW, it won't succeed.

    Any thoughts?

Do you know what time it will air on the west coast? Also, if you have only seen a preview how do you know it won't bring out some good negativity on the witnesses? I'd like my son-in-law to see it since he adores this film and shows it to many of his dub friends. If it would do any good for him to see it I'd like for him to see it.

I just use www.tvguide.com and search for my zip code area for the channels when I want to know.

Also, if you have only seen a preview how do you know it won't bring out some good negativity on the witnesses?

The sneak preview was for the edited television version. WE SAW THE TV VERSION.
I think they said 51 minutes. It would be
possible that they would change it at the last minute from feedback, but I think it was too late in
the process (sneak preview on May 2nd) to do those changes. PBS has to see the final version
and would have to approve any changes, and I doubt that happened in less than 3 weeks.

Also, there wasn't enough negative reaction where I saw the film. Even I didn't have one. I posted my
    review here at http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/133732/1.ashx.
No reason to change the film, plus no time to really change the thrust of negative commenting.

I'd like my son-in-law to see it since he adores this film and shows it to many of his dub friends. If it would do any good for him to see it I'd like for him to see it.

gumby, I am confused. He shows it to people and you would like him to see it on tv "if it would do any good" ?
He already knows the content. What's the point?

I saw it Sunday night on WGBH Boston. As I posted on here, I don't think it'll convert anyone. It's OK, but not especially flattering to the JWs.

Sorry One-the-way-out, I thought it was going to be a documentary on the film but not the actual film.

I too agree that the actual film doesn't do any damage to the witnesses but rather puts them in an innocent light. Because the society doesn't put this film out, even some witnesses are sceptical about watching this film. The part which shows the young witness listening to and playing guitar with some rather heavy rock and roll artists isn't what I'd say is normality with the average witness so as to portray something the society endorses and is a false picture of what the witnesses represent.

I forgot to mention that the new Entertainment Weekly recommends Knocking in tonight's lineup.

Seeker4, would you watch it for the purpose of having a JW in the family see it?
I know it has dissenting views of family in it, but it really tries to normalize JW's.

I just listened to the host, Terrence Howard's interview at http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=10320391
Thanks, Danny Haszard for posting that.

I might not want to watch this piece if he is the host. His view is disgusting.
He was never a JW, but his family members became one. He wasn't disciplined
enough and never gave up smoking, but he thinks they are right. His view is
    warped, warped, warped.

I gave a good review of the film, but I hope this guy doesn't have much time to give
a personal view at the beginning or end. That could really be the effort to normalize
    JW's.

SHOCK!!!: There was a message on the answering machine last night, that was from a family member who is "not speaking to me"....telling me when it was on and on what channel I could see it! He merely said that there was something HUGE going to be aired on "Independent Lens" that I should watch!

I wonder if this person knows that his phone number also showed up on the answering machine....so no more BIG SECRET FROM ME as far as that is concerned...wink-wink. (If he reads this board...the cat is out of the bag, LOL)

    Hey OTWO,

Just got a call from my wife. She says someone called her to let her know there's going to be a really good show about JWs on PBS tonight. (It's got to be KNOCKING.)

I haven't seen it, but I have read your review. Do you have any specific suggestions on things I could bring up with the family?
