Cute cat! I grew up w/ dogs. They were all purebreds, so they did not have a super long life. I think the oldest was 13. I currently have two cats, which I am hoping will live forever! I adopted both of them. My first as a kitten and my second as a 2 year old.
She is so sweet JH. Our first dog who we got at the Humane Society lived 14 years. Now I remember your kittie's name - Katu. Is that right?

JH, My cat is 11 years old, (adopted from the pound at 5 months) and is almost a carbon copy of yours. In her old age she has accepted two large Dobermans...(the poor girl)...but keeps them on their toes. Lots of swipes to noses when they get too pushy.
What a beautiful cat you have!
The oldest cat in our family went to age 18 and had a stroke after a large stupid dog chased him up a fence......he lost his ability to walk the next day.

14 years and still going going going...my dog
One thing I noticed, as they get older, they sleep more, and play less.
I also had a Parakeet or do we say Budgie, for about 12 years when I was a kid.
Cute kittie JH
Longest was a cat - lived to be 16 almost 17 years old.

I've had Rocco, my umbrella cockatoo, for almost 2 1/2 years. I've had to make arrangements for his care in my will, as these birds can live 80 years or more. Rocco will most likely outlive me.

I have a pet monkey that is going on 20 years old, and another that is 12.

my cat died a couple of years ago at age 14. my former roommate got him as a kitten, but when he got married his wife already had a cat, so I kept the kitty.
Maybe I will get another cat someday. But right now I am home so little, I'd have to get 2 to keep each other company. It would be nice to have a cat to curl up on my lap or keep my feet warm (or better yet, curl up with a nice wife!... heh heh). I was at an elderly sisters's house the other day (she has no idea about the fade) and her cat just loves to sit in my lap...the sister tells me the cat does not curl up in any other lap like that.... I think cats know if you really like them or not.
My family had a dog that we had to put to sleep at 19. Probably should have done it at 18...my dad just could not bring himself to have it done.... one of the rare times I seen my dad cry.
