Do you think that the 'Convention' tract work will seem silly to most?

Last year somebody in the territory where I lived asked a JW if they would be helping out with transportation to the convention that they where advertising (since it was about and hour and a half away). 'Yeah Right' was the response I think was given.

A testimony to how utterly back asswards those guys in Brooklyn think.

This is just one---great---big---waste of good white paper. Those retards think people are going to come to a stupidfest, waste their gas, and p*$# away a weekend just to hear something that has been heard every single year in the past.

There is a lot of time and gas wasted as well. People are told to put their plans on hold to get these invitations out. They have to waste their gas as well. The majority of these tracts are going to end up in the landfills anyways. And the people really don't give a $&@# about the whole thing. They won't drive the 3 or 4 miles to the regular meetings--most will not drive the nearly 200 miles or more plus spend two nights in some crappy motel for this. And they are bashing those ruining the earth? With this waste of gas and paper, they are really bashing themselves.

So, is it OK for these non-jws attending to stay in a non-society recommended hotel now???

    Just a thought.

Future converts are not the aim at all. They don't seriously want a bunch of unwashed worldlies showing up at conventions thirsting for knowledge.

The "invitation" is just a front to show they carry out "free educational programs" in compliance with non-profit rules. The aim is to maintain precious tax-free status.

The publishers fall for the ruse that they're performing lifesaving work and everyone's happy in la la land. The zero success rate never even phases them.

This hasn't even crossed my mind. Excellent point Sue.

The tracts shouldn't be winding up in landfills though. One would hope in this day and age that people would at least have the common sense to recycle it so it can be used to make egg cartons with or put into the next edition of the National Enquirer.

Just about everybody (except for the kiss-ass types) in my congregation last year thought the invitations were stupid. Even the bookstudy conductor, while making F/S arrangements said he didn't like the idea. Maybe it would be an ok idea for local congregations in the city the convention was being held to distribute invitiations. That kind of makes sence. Utterly retarded to invite people who live 2.5 hours away.

The tract work serves a very important function. It keeps the R&F busy without the expenditure of having them giving away 32 page magazines.

I think that most people think any tract work is "silly." Even the political stuff that is mailed to them about people they vote for.

As has been said, it is an inexpensive way to keep the rank and file "busy".
