Hopefully Kimberlee Norris, et al, will continue their work.

They can get the attention of the press through lawsuits (settled or won) and the WTBTS pays the tab!

I was thinking if 1 million ex dubs (out of the several million of them) contributed a once off amount of $200 (£100) not much by today's standards, that would accumulate $200 million (£100 million) a substantial amount of money with which to seriously counter their propaganda and general strategies.

Four arguments against such an ill-conceived proposal:

    1. You can lead a horse to water...or, to quote Paul Simon, "..A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest..."

    2. The proposal is the kind of group-think mentlity that leads to extreme movements starting up and would suit oppressive governments!

    3. In the event that such a massive counter-JW-propaganda movement became operational, it probably would have the unintended effect of causing JW-friendly people to go back into the religion because from the Watchtower's point of view it "proves" they're being persecuted.

    4. In the worldwide scheme of things, including fundamentalist terrorism, the Watchtower Society is a very, very small fish.

The rough treatment of ex members in my opinion is intentional and aims at emotionally stunning them to pre empt the possibility of them having a clear mind with which to fight their fraudulent, cultic objectives.

This assessment is true in my opinion. It is stunning to be suddently cut off from friends and family.

The two things most needed are information (to keep a clear mind) and support (to keep from being emotionally overwhelmed).

It has been my experience that sites like this (and informational sites like Freeminds) already provide a wealth of information. This information is vital, not only to those who are looking into JW's for the first time, but also for those former members who finally are seeing the Watchtower Society as the snake-oil sales group it is.

Also sites like this help provide support for those who go through a wide range of emotions and experiences upon leaving JW's. Almost every time someone shares their experience here, many others can honestly write a post that say how they faced a similar situation. And who knows how many lurkers there are who have these experiences too, but never post here -- and yet they too benefit.

All in all, the Internet has been a very valuable tool in facilitating the wonderful growth of the ex-JW nation and to support them as they take the road to a successful post-JW life. And it's being done one precious person at a time, even without a formal structure. Many or most ex JW's would instinctively resist a formal structure.

Bigdreaux having trustworthy individuals in charge and getting everyone to accept that there will be no abuses would be a major obstacle. The best way would have been for one very rich individual to start it off by putting in several million dollars in a transparent and supervisable fund and then support in the form of donations would follow when people see that something productive is being done. It would snowball into something big. I wouldn't worry about what the dubs would think in case of failure. In fact I can't see how it can fail given the cult's numerous flaws and weak points.

Looking Glass there are no doubt many ex dubs that have low incomes and can't donate anything some may even be unemployed, the amount of $200 dollars I gave is just a rough average some may contribute $5 while some wealthy persons $1000. And if many ex JWs are not interested in fighting the WTS many others are.

Truthsetonefree surely some organised resistance has been achieved eg silent lambs, ajwrb, Ray Franz, numerous anti JW sites such as Freeminds and forums like this one, with much success and indeed the WTS greatly fears the internet for this reason. But I am thinking of something more organised at a higher and more efficient level.

DJK enlightening the public about the cultic nature of the WTS is a way of challenging it. As for the money side everything should go through a bank account which will be transparent to all, what goes in (donations) and what goes out (expenses).

Amber Rose let's not forget that though the WTS is a religious organisation this proposed anti WTS organisation will not be of a religious nature and will not seek to moralise and impose rules and regulations or in any way control the lives of those participating in it. It's sole aim is to fight the WTS.

Outlaw indeed you need to be as well organised as your opponent to successfully defeat him.

There are many types of ex-dubs, just as many as there are types of people.

I have met some that never post on JWD or any other ex-jw DB and probably never will. But I found them through other ex-JWs.

Organised...the word that appears only in the OT NWT never in the NT, the Christian history part. Kind of gives you the idea that "organization" was not a big topic for first century Christians in the WTS mode. But it appears in some form 14,390 in the WTS alone on the 2006 WTS-CD (WT 1950-2006).

Some ex-jws find it hard to "join" any group for some time after leaving the WTS. I remember the first time I went to a union conference; I kept having WT echoes in my brain. I am officer of the union so go to the meetings, thinking this is what elders' meetings are like.

I go to a support group re my chronic illness and kept hearing WT echoes in my mind.

It has been 5 years now since my last JW meeting/assembly/convention/funeral/wedding. I still get a little ill when I hear a recording of the WTS spiel from those events. It is one thing to READ it, but to hear it, oy ve!

I have found that it is only a certain slice of the general population that "join" and "do" much re causes, support groups, religions, etc. I am not surprised to realize that only a slice of the ex-JW population are "active" or "public" about the WT influence on people they don't know. I'm not quite the "a friend is only a person I haven't met yet" type of woman, but I am trying to be more open.

So you want to "make a difference," "bring down the WTS," "save your family," go for it. Don't be surprised or disappointed that not every ex-JW will approach it your way. You will find some.

The reason XJWs are not JWs anymore is mostly because we are independently minded, just like cats as NathanNatas said.
You cannot organise independently minded individuals. You can only organise gregarious people who like to be led and told what to do.

Greendawn - with respect, the general public need education on what the Watchtower Cult really is and I don't believe that this needs a large and possibly cumbersome organization to do this. Any organization would quickly be so slandered by the Watchtower that it could end up being quickly discredited as the Watchtower 'picked off' its members with attacks on character, personality and any possibly disreputable history it could dig up on individuals. Who in their right minds would want to allow themselves to be put through such painful mud slinging.

The best way about handling the Watchtower 'problem' has to be annonymously, only revealing ourselves when we have to, and only to people in positions of power who can help us such as lawyers, doctors, judges etc.

Too many of us are too vulnerable after our Watchtower experiences BUT, we ARE winning. We are beginning to get our message across and through the relatively free medium that allows us all to continue anonymously and freely, the Internet.

The Watchtower is like a person who has been given a terminal diagnosis. It's 'cancer' is the Internet, web sites such as this and many others, and the millions of faded, DF'd, and DA'd people who have found a voice and actually formed a very informal 'Organization' that is slowly killing the Watchtower Society.

We cannot take the WT on in a 'head on' fashion because the hide behind their disguise of being supposedly a 'religion' and therefore a 'minority group' that is given protection. But, we can give out our experience, and true information about this terrible Cult in a manner that does not allow anyone to persecute or prosecute us. This is the ONLY way that will work, in my opinion and I believe it is working well already.

If we become an 'Organization' how long before the Watchtower decides to turn its awesome legal machine against us.

If we have nothing, they can take nothing.

In the end, we win anyway as long as we don't let go and keep fighting.
