A month or two ago I bought some packaged crab meat and without looking, put it in a salad. My bf started eating before me, and said that crab tasted funny and decided not to eat the salad. I looked at the package, I first noticed the month "May" which should still be good, but then I was horrified to see the year, "May 2006". The whole salad was ruined but luckily my bf never got sick.

I'm a date looker, I'll grab the freshest carton of milk since they put the fresher ones in the back, and the not so fresh ones in the front...and I read the nutritional labels too

I once went to a convenience store to buy a tub of ice cream for guests and found that all the ice cream in the store was well past the expiry date - 3 years past the date. I brought it to the attention of the store manager. A week later I went in again and checked. Sure enough, the same 3 year old ice cream was there. I called the health department. That business was closed down.

I won't shop at a store that sells things past the expiry date. If I want rancid food I can get it in any dumpster for free. No point in paying for it.

Always. I don't buy a lot of prepackaged foods but the ones I buy (like milk and yogurt) I won't touch if the date has expired. I one time ate expired yogurt that had mold in it and I noticed it tasted "earthy", when I turned the light on and saw there was mold in it that did it for me. Now I always notice the date first.

It does make you wonder when you see what people in different parts of ther world will eat as well. Tastes vary, as of course do stomachs.

There's an Ingles grocery store near me, and I have had numerous expired items from that store, mostly dairy stuff. Now milk I always checked the date, but other stuff I never used to check(except meat).

Usually chip dips and yougurt there is expired. I could go in that store right now and find 1/2 dozen expired items.

Well I have learned my lesson there, I even started checking exp.dates on canned goods.

One more thing, I have gotten numerous salad dressings there that were expired too.

Do cricketts have an expiration date?

I live by this rule: when in doubt, throw it out. I have had food poisoning before and it ain't pretty.

I look at the date. And I try to grab from the back because the stores put the oldest goods up front. If its past the expiration date I wont eat it. Mainly thats for milk, yogurt, cheese, dairy products.

I look at the date. Let me tell you what happened.

I cooked something once and after it was cooked, I made a bowl full. I took a few bites and then noticed something in the bowl and I looked closer and I saw worms in it. It was one of those rice boxed mixes. There were tons of worms in my bowl. I almost puked and threw out everything in the pantry that was a boxed mix and now I look at dates .......

I check everything I buy, even canned and boxed products and I'm the woman in the dairy aisle messing up all the pretty displays because I'm digging in the back for the freshest items.

My biggest bout of food poisoning I got at a District Convention! It took quite a few people out, but of course nobody shut them down from prepping food for thousands...outside...without proper refrigeration....practically in the parking lot!

My mom. to this day, has a fridge packed full of food despite the fact that all the kids are long gone. I can't tell you how many times we were sick as kids and I know it was food poisoning. She was always feeding us old stuff because she didn't want to waste it.

I was forced to eat food at her house a couple of weeks ago and it's a miracle I didn't get sick. The chicken salad was questionable and the bread definitely had that "give me a few more hours and I'll start with the green mold" smell. She hates when I visit because I'll just stand at her refrigerator and randomly toss food and condiments into the garbage. Can you say yogurt with a sell by date TWO YEARS AGO!! *sigh*
