I need to draw on your collective JW knowledge here; I have two questions:
1. If Satan is supposed to be the ruler of this world AND Jesus' arrived invisibly in 1914 to rule the world, surely only one is true.
2. The "Knocking" documentary put the dubs on television, does that make them "TeleDubbies" ?

I have been out a long time, but here's the old light for you. Jesus began his invisible rule in 1914. Satan and his demons were expelled from heaven in 1919 (as I recall from our studies in Babylon the Great has Fallen: God's Kingdom Rules).
What's so funny, the evidence JW's use for the reign of Christ is overwhelmingly negative, based on Matthew 24. But that's supposed to be because the demons are now living among us. It's pretty convoluted. I can't believe I used to just swallow the whole thing and think I was privy to some kind of "insider" information.

Were things so fantastically wonderful in earlier centuries? Were people so much better?

I could claim that all the dead Israelites who crossed the red sea were resurrected and shrunk down and Satan and all his spooks were shrunk down too and they all had a polka party on the head of a pin in 1944.
There's as much proof for that claim as there is for the claim that Jesus returned invisibly in 1914 and that goblins float above the wooden board games at K-Mart.

It beats me Doug. It seems that there were always bad periods in History. The Vinkings weren't perticually nice ! I think that the JW mindset focuses on the bad things that happen. That way they can easily convince themselves that Armageddon is just around the corner AND convince themselves that the Devil is in charge - all at the same time. God's work is all around us - it's just that they don't seem to see it.
That would be a good question to ask a Witness. I'll have to remember that one for next time I get into conversation with one. Thanks
This is what my memory recollects as to the doctrine.
1914 was the year Jesus was enthroned, and Jesus first act as King was to hurl the demons and Satanto earth. now Satan is ruler of the earth, and Jesus is king in heaven..
I never heard of the 1919 time of demons being hurled to earth, but I believe it was the year that Jesus inspected the slave and found them pure, anyone please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
What I'm trying to say is that: Jesus and Satan can't BOTH be ruling this world.
UNLESS, by some twisted logic the WTBTS claim that they are one.
Which looking at their interpretation of who "Abaddon" is in Revelation - they are nearly there!
Jesus is enthroned King, but He is Lord of "God's house" (aka spiritual Israel and their 6million strong tag-alongs), not the world. Not yet. Not until after the Big Showdown.
Satan is ruler of the "world", "sea of mankind", the rebellious sons of man, does not include flora and fauna. Not until you bring up the embarrassing anecdotes of intelligent primates, promiscuous beasts and homosexual sex acts in the animal kingdom. THEN, a Witness may sheepishly mutter that Satan rules the jungle too.

it is easy enough to deal with in the mind of a dub.. All the good things in life you thank Jehovah for , because he looks after you and the kingdom is coming.. All the bad things in life you just blame on Satan because he rules the world and is out to get you...That way it is never your fault.
