This has got to be fallacious reasoning ...

P17"Why pioneer? you could lead a 'normal life' and still share in the preaching work" This perfectly valid viewpoint, which is followed by the vast majority of Witnesses and hard working elders is derided in p.19 as "A life of ease" . Surely this is an appeal to emotion and moral blackmail. It says that if a youth does not pioneer he/she is a selfish materialist , while the Watchtower Study Conductor is probably living that 'normal' life himself.

Also in p 19 "Are you willing to make sacrifices for the sake of the Kingdom?" - Or is it for the sake of the WTS? ..This blurring of the distinction between God and the WTS is continued in p20 "you will draw close to Jehovah and earn the love and respect of fellow Christians"...Is it being closer to God ? or that Printing Company ? ...and notice that other ways of life lead to "Pain and frustration" ...

Oh yes? As a youth I once bought into this. I gave up my job and went into Pioneering... I did not keep it up very long.

im glad i got to read your review today. usually i just go to the public talk about once a month to get my mags and km and turn in my phantom report and skip the Craptower. But today the speaker does not show up so they reversed meetings. (If i had been thinking I would have walked across the lobby and went to the other congo talk). So i got to hear all the ridiculous comments about the young ones kids. The only thing making the craptower lesson bearable was a) blondies comments and b) the regular conductor was there and he tries to make it tolerable, but how can you make a silk purse out of a sows ear?

I skipped out at about during the review questions. Never did get my mags...the mag servant and his assistant were not there...now I gotta go again to get those...

...i try to get home early so i can relax, come here for a few minutes, then go to work....

    14) Giving priority to goals that honor Jehovah is the wisest course but by no means the easiest. When it comes to choosing a career, for example, you may come under a great deal of pressure from relatives, peers, and well-meaning educators who believe that a higher education and a lucrative career are the keys to true success and happiness. (Romans 12:2) Like Timothy, you will need to "fight the fine fight of the faith" in order to "get a firm hold on the everlasting life" that Jehovah holds out to you.-1 Timothy 6:12; 2 Timothy 3:12.

School Counselor: ''James, your parents and I are really concerned and we will pressure you to no end until you choose a lucrative career and have success and happiness."

Jim : "Mr School Counselor'', I decided to not pursue any higher education. I will pioneer for the summer and start either washing windows, become a janitor, and other manual jobs that will let me pioneer and ''get a firm hold on the everlasting life.'' The Society says that the "End" is around the corner and true happiness and success only comes from being a true servant of Jehovah."

Blondie Thank you for sifting thru this muck and garbage !

    Or, an alternative wording....

    14) Giving priority to goals that honor Jehovah is the wisest course but by no means the easiest. When it comes to choosing a career, for example, you may come under a great deal of pressure from relatives, peers, and well-meaning educators elders who believe that a higher education [lead only to] a lucrative career, [materialism, and debauchery.] …keys to true success and happiness [however, lie within yourself. What is your dream? If Jehovah meant for you to be a lawyer, pharmacist, doctor, surgeon, or documentary film-maker, be courageous, and do it!]. (Romans 12:2) Like Timothy, you will need to "fight the fine fight of the faith" in order to "get a firm hold on the everlasting life" that Jehovah holds out to you.-1 Timothy 6:12; 2 Timothy 3:12.

School Counselor: ''James, .. I ..[am] really concerned …[that your parents and others are pressuring you to pick a career that is singularly unsuited to your unique strengths and abilities. I encourage you to take charge of your own future.]

Jim : "Mr School Counselor'', [you don’t understand the pressure I am under. I am still at home, and my family has threatened to kick me to the curb and never speak again unless I toe the line.] I’ve decided to … pioneer for the summer and start either washing windows, become a janitor, and other manual jobs that will let me pioneer and ''get a firm hold on the everlasting life.'' [Besides, I’ve been promised a car and a speaking part at the next convention if I turn down these scholarships.]

Excellent review as usual Blondie. It sickened me to even read their bullshit on this one. After all the lives these assholes have ruined by telling them NOT to do anything normal with their lives, their still churning out the crap that they were spewing in the last century.

I for one am glad that a "well-meaning" educator helped me nudge my daughter into accepting a college scholarship. She graduated this year with a 5.+ GPA; pulled in a 35 on the ACT; a 2124 on the SAT; and wanted to go pioneering! I wasn't having any of it, neither was her guidance counselor.

After I explained my daughter's reluctance to apply for college, the counselor thanked me and stated the info would be helpful to her in dealing with other JW kids. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

Considering that Christ came and died so that humans could live a "normal" life, this article is shameful. The writer of the article is either deluded, ignorant, or a deceitful manipulator. To call his fellow JW's "Christians" is also dishonest, since no JW('cept for 9000 or so diehards who partake every year) wants be with Christ, they all want pet lions and to play upon the hole of a cobra in their native garb while using machinery that emits no CO2. They(the WTS) clearly do not want and have never wanted the best for their members. As for Paul exhorting Timothy to fight the fine fight for the faith, it was just that: FOR THE FAITH--- the faith in JesusChrist and the call to be with Him in the house of his Father. That faith is no where seen in any Kingdom Hall. It seems JW have lost that fight.

How many families where both parents are jws meet weekly to discuss the bible formally? One CO noted that few "family heads" (to include single parent families) were doing this, at least they weren't reporting it. That MS and elders should set the example and it would add 4 hours to the preaching totals each month from each of them if only one attending was not baptized. So was it the eternal life of the children or the hours on a time slip that mattered? I knew several who never did this even after this "encouragement," just reported that they had (per the testimony of the children involved).

It was the hours on a time slip that counted, most definitely. We felt guilty reporting the time on our children, so we stopped and didn't care.

Of course this article infuriated me because my parents took advantage of the "society" saying no to education in the 1980's. My parents were lazy, they didn't want the responsibility for training us kids, paying for our education, so this cult was perfect for them. I hope some JW kids are reading this. I am still working paycheck to paycheck, struggling, while I see other JW families in mansions driving expensive cars.

Why is there no article for parents? Are they telling parents to sell their mansions as the end is near and devote their final days to walking door to door with their kids that have no future?

College degrees are now needed to just get entry level positions. What's with the statement that a person is seeking material things by getting an education??? Is food and shelter materialism??

These kinds of articles are great because they serve to distance in JW's minds what their leaders in their ivory towers want them to do and whats happening at the grassroots. They reinfoce a gap that appears to be developing at the congregation level and the ivory tower level. No one really takes the call for young ones to ignore higher education seriously anymore. Congregations in the West are littered with young ones who go to University.

Paragraph 8 is sickening. It subtly reinforces cliqueness and judgmentalism amongst the youth in the congregation. It is basically telling young ones to only associate with those who are spiritual strong in the congregation, which means they should avoid those who are judged as being 'spiritually weak (which to a JW means anyone who doesn't go to all the meetings, irregular FS, doesn't answer up are not worthy of their company or is not on the TMS). Instead why aren't they writing that the youth in the congregation should be ensuring they do not exclude any other youth and should be going out of their way to encourage weaker ones. Instead they write this pompous, self-righteous crap. All JW's are good for is judging people, even in their own congregation.
